Three partners have shared how opening their relationship evolved into a committed throuple
Couple Who Began Dating Another Woman Together Explain How It Reshaped Their Relationship
A couple who decided to invite another woman into their relationship have spoken openly about life as a throuple and how the experience shifted their connection as partners.
Alana Underwood and Kevin Jankay had already been together for three years and felt secure in their bond when they chose to explore something outside the traditional boundaries of a two-person relationship.
Instead of taking the next step toward marriage, they agreed to explore intimacy with a third person, believing honesty and communication were key from the start.
Alana had always identified as straight and had only been in relationships with men, but over time she began questioning whether she might also be attracted to women.
Rather than ending her relationship with Kevin to explore that side of herself, the couple decided together to try a one-time sexual experience with another woman.
Years later, that decision turned out to be far more significant than either of them expected, because what started as a single encounter eventually grew into a committed polyamorous relationship.
The woman they met was Megan Smith, who was married to a woman at the time they first connected.
After continuing to see each other, Alana and Kevin realized their feelings toward Megan had gone beyond physical attraction and had developed into something emotional and meaningful.
A few months into getting to know one another, Megan separated from her wife for reasons she has said were unrelated to the couple. By January 2021, all three agreed to officially form a throuple.
Looking back on how bringing a third person into their relationship changed things, Kevin said the biggest difference was the added support and communication.
Speaking to PEOPLE, he explained: "You get double the support and double the affection. You can bounce something off one person and get feedback from another."
"If you're in a quarrel or an argument with one person, the other person can show a perspective that you might not see because you're in the heat of the moment."
Megan added that for their relationship to work long term, all three had to accept that balance would not always look equal across every connection.
"The way you love each individual person is different," she explained. "That doesn't mean it's more or less — it's just a different type of relationship. Like, mine and Alana's relationship is very different from mine and Kevin's. But that doesn't mean it's more or less. It's just a different experience and a different type of love."
The trio now openly share parts of their life together online, where they talk about communication, boundaries, and what polyamory looks like in practice.
Under the name Camp Throuple, they have built a large following, with over 231,000 followers on Instagram and nearly 300,000 on TikTok.
