Couple With 3 Kids Find Out They're Cousins After Taking DNA Test 17 Years Into Marriage
A couple, content in their marriage and parents to three children, shared their surprising journey of uncovering their family connection through a DNA test.
Celina and Joseph Quinones, residents of Colorado, had been married for over a decade, with 17 years of togetherness, when Celina decided to explore her family heritage.
While delving into her family tree, the mother of three encountered a shocking revelation - Joseph, her husband, was also her cousin.
Under the TikTok handle @realestatemommas, she shared the story of how the couple discovered that their relationship was more complex than just that of husband and wife.
She wrote: "Married my husband in 2006. Not thinking anything of it we had three kids. Come to find out we were related and cousins."
Celina, who wrote a book about her experiences, made a joke that the revelation was a funny conversation starter. She also advised other couples to learn about their own family backgrounds.
The video rapidly gained popularity, accumulating a total of four million views.
However, it also attracted a slew of negative comments from individuals suggesting that the couple should part ways.
She described the moment of discovering that her husband was, in reality, her cousin as "heart-wrenching."
Nevertheless, she stressed that their love has grown even stronger, and she has chosen to overlook the unfavorable comments advocating for their separation.
She wrote: "This was three kids in that I found out we were related. I did my DNA test I think in 2016 and yeah it was devastating because I was like "babe we're related are we even supposed to be together? This is weird. It really freaked me out."
"I wouldn't change it for the world... Cousband and wife for life! There is a reason why good couples look alike. I am just over here raising awareness."
She explained how they've moved on from the discovery, writing: "My kids and my husband are my everything and we looked past it. All our kids have 10 fingers and 10 toes. It's a good ice breaker lol."
In another video, Celina and Joseph clarified that when they initially started their relationship, they had no knowledge of their familial connection.
They dated for four months before deciding to get engaged.
She explained: "17 years with my husband. No, we didn't know till we did a DNA test. We had a four-month courtship before we got married. He is still and will be my everything. "
"I ain't gonna let a little bit of blood destroy what we created, this beautiful family."
In response to negative comments from viewers, Celina emphasized that they would never let the opinions of others affect their relationship. She firmly maintains that they had absolutely no awareness of their family connection until the DNA test revealed it.
She wrote: "Let me divorce him because we didn't know. Let me just tell our kids their parents are not together anymore because of other people's opinions."
"No thank you we will just be staying cousins, spouses and lovers forever. Now go throw up in your mouth some more."
In another video she said she wouldn’t be surprised if more couples are unknowingly related in Colorado and urged people to do a DNA test just in case.
"Colorado seems so big, it's really not that big. Everyone knows everyone and most likely everyone is related.” she said.
"Do a DNA test if you don't want to marry your cousin on accident! Lol. Just my luck. Now even if we separate we stuck for life because we family now," she said.
“I love my cousin,” she declared in a follow-up clip, “and I wouldn’t have it any other way that I married on accident.”
