The audience at Ed Sheeran’s concert in Detroit lost themselves in the music when Eminem showed up for a surprise hometown performance. On Ed Sheeran's Instagram, he posted videos where he kept the surprise secret by saying he wanted to sing an Eminem song as if it were a cover.
Crowd Loses It When Eminem Crashes Ed Sheeran’s Gig In Detroit
Ed Sheeran's fans in Detroit were already incredibly excited to see the superstar perform live. However, the excitement reached a whole new level when Eminem unexpectedly joined the show to perform his iconic songs "Lose Yourself" and "Stan."
Sheeran initially started performing "Lose Yourself" on his own, and the audience was already very enthusiastic. But the entire Ford Field stadium erupted with excitement when the Rap God, Eminem, made his appearance.
Sheeran and Em displayed remarkable onstage chemistry, and when they sang the chorus together, it created a truly impactful moment.
This performance took place during Sheeran's two-night engagement in the Motor City in July, and the video of their collaboration has already amassed nearly five million views since the concert.
For some reason, the two stars only performed about a minute of "Lose Yourself," although they weren't finished yet. After Eminem energized the crowd, Sheeran mentioned, "He was going to come on and do one song. I said, 'you can't come on in Detroit and just do one song.' Do you want another song?" Following this, they both launched into Eminem's hit, "Stan."
During their performance of "Stan," Sheeran took on the beautiful vocal line originally sung by Dido at the beginning of the song.
Hearing him add his unique touch to it was a delightful experience. Eminem, on the other hand, delivered a passionate and heartfelt performance for his beloved hometown.
“Detroit, I missed you,” Eminem shouted after Saturday’s performance to the amped-up crowd, as seen in other videos posted to social media. “I appreciate you, Detroit. I love you!”
Witnessing these two legendary artists collaborate on stage was truly enchanting, and judging by the audience's response, they knew they were witnessing something extraordinary.
This concert wasn't the first time these two artists worked together, as they previously collaborated on Eminem's single "River".
The internet went wild when two of the world's biggest stars performed together. A fan shared their thoughts on the special moment in a comment below the video.
“The video doesn’t do the justice of how crazy the crowd went when Eminem was on stage. I was in the concert and not a single person stopped screaming at the top of their lungs. It was phenomenal.”
Ed Sheeran's two-night engagement in Detroit was noteworthy for various reasons aside from Eminem's surprise appearance.
On the first night, Sheeran performed in front of a relatively intimate crowd of 2,000 people at the Royal Oak Music Theater, which stands in stark contrast to his usual sold-out stadium shows.
During this special event, he played his entire latest album, "Subtract," a feat he couldn't typically do at his larger stadium concerts. This was likely because the album has a more subdued and melancholic tone, making it less suited for stadium-sized performances. Sheeran was accompanied by a full band and used this unique show as an opportunity to share the stories behind his songs with his fans.
The following night, Sheeran took the stage at Ford Field, where Eminem made his surprise appearance.
This time, Sheeran performed without his band. Additionally, he had guest appearances, including Khalid joining him to feature on "Beautiful People" and violinist Alicia Enstrom to perform on "Galway Girl."
