Dad Retires Immediately From His Day Job After Winning $2.5 Million Lottery

A hardworking father recently had the shock of his life after checking his lottery ticket.

One of thousands of Australians who purchased a TattsLotto ticket for the draw on September 1 was the man from Melbourne's north.

The nameless man didn't pay as much attention, compared to the many people who might have watched each ball drop to see if their numbers came up.

After double-checking his numbers a week later, he discovered he was a multi-millionaire.

With one of the eight winning entries in Division 1, he took home $2.5 million.

“I’ve always gone with the philosophy that you have to be in it to win it," he said. “You never really expect it to happen though.”

The realization of how that sum of money would alter his life left him utterly overwhelmed.

“I don’t know what to do," he said when speaking to TattsLotto officials.

“I don’t know whether I should laugh or cry. I’m going to retire straight away, I think.”

“I’ve had a good working life, but this has just made it that much easier to pull back and enjoy the rest of my life in a more relaxed manner.”

He said he would not keep his gains to himself when asked what he had in mind to do with them.

“I’ll also pay off my kid’s mortgages," he said.

"It’s tough out there at the moment and I can’t wait to be able to help them get ahead and prepare for the future.”

“I’ve got no doubt this win is going to do some amazing things for a lot of people.”

His winning numbers were 9, 37, 32, 41, 40, and 16, with the additional numbers 26 and 30. The Broadford Newsagency sold the winning ticket.

Amber Lunn, the store manager, expressed her joy for the man.

“How exciting has this been Broadford Newsagency and the local community. Who would believe that we would sell another division one winning entry in less than a month,” she said.

“We’re always happy when we sell a division one winning entry because it truly changes our customer's lives and we’re glad to be a part of that.”

“Congratulations to our very fortunate winner and we wish them all the best. Hopefully, we can keep this winning streak going!”
