#1 Labyrinth, Jim Henson’s 1986 fantasy film starring David Bowie, is getting rebooted for the 21st century.

Entertainment Weekly claimed the supposed Labyrinth film project would be a sequel to the original, not a reboot. The Jim Henson Company has been contacted for comment.

TriStar Pictures and The Jim Henson Company have made a deal to make a sequel to Labyrinth, the '80s cult classic, with Guardians of the Galaxy co-writer Nicole Perlman penning the script.

#2 The 1986 movie starring Bowie and Jennifer Connelly was the last directed by Jim Henson.

Labyrinth was the last film Muppets master Jim Henson made before he died. The movie followed a teenager (Jennifer Connelly) who wished away her baby brother. The Goblin King Jareth (played by David Bowie) snatches the infant away and takes him to his fantastical castle. Connelly's character traverses the titular maze to rescue her brother before he becomes a goblin.

The film received lukewarm reviews and bombed commercially upon its 1986 release. But in the nearly three decades since, it's become a cult favorite.

#3 'No one is remaking Labyrinth' – screenwriter denies reports of reboot

Guardians of the Galaxy cowriter Nicole Perlman has said she has "no interest" in remaking the 1986 David Bowie-starring film Labyrinth, despite news reports stating the contrary.

She was upset by the implication from news reports that she or the company would seek to profit from Bowie's death. "All I can say is that the timing for the story was awful; it felt like a punch in the gut," she said.

"Bowie's music helped me through some of the hardest times of my life. I respect him as a musician, an actor, an icon and, most importantly, as a human being. It would have been a dream come true, to write something for him."

In a widely cited story, the Hollywood Reporter wrote on Friday that the fantasy film would be "rebooted for the 21st century". According to their report, TriStar had "closed a deal with the Jim Henson Co to produce a new iteration" and had hired the Guardians of the Galaxy cowriter Nicole Perlman to write the script.

But Perlman quickly took to Twitter to categorically deny that she was involved in a reboot of the film:

"Guys, please don't fall for all the clickbait," she wrote. "No one is remaking Labyrinth. That movie is perfect as it is."

#4 Jennifer Connelly remembers Labyrinth costar David Bowie

Jennifer Connelly was the leading teen in Labyrinth nearly 30 years ago, and on Monday the actress remembered working on the film with iconic singer David Bowie, who died Sunday after an 18-months-long battle with cancer. While Connelly's career was only beginning, Bowie was an established star at that point. The experience made an impression on her.

"I met David Bowie when I was 14 and he became a hero to me because he was an artist, and because he was a genius who had the time to be kind," Connelly said in a statement to EW. "I'd never met such an extraordinary artist before, and I haven't since the world will be a greyer place without him. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones."

#5 It’s unclear whether that project will move forward.

Entertainment Weekly have since claimed the film will be a sequel to the original rather than a reboot.

Perlman told Guardian Australia that she first began talks with the Jim Henson Company about a project well over a year ago but she could not discuss anything further about it.

It was recently revealed that Bowie had prepared a number of posthumous releases before his death, the first of which should be released in 2017

Rumors of another Labyrinth movie bubbled up in October 2014. It is unclear if the new take is a reimagining of the story or a sequel, as it is being kept deep in the vault.
