What makes a great love story?
Enduring against all odds, of course.
This is why The Vow touched its viewers so deeply. It showed raw emotion, struggle, and unconditional love. It showed the power between two people to make it through the hardest of times and come out stronger. It showed us what real love is.
And the best part? It was totally true. We were granted special access into one of the greatest love stories of all time. So, it's only natural we'd want to know more!
Oprah made this happen in the best way possible. She caught up with the couple to see where they were now. You can see that video at the end of this article, but right now, let's take a moment to appreciate the events that led to a love that inspires us all.
#1 In 1993, Krickitt Carpenter married the love of her life, Kim.
Here's the happy couple moments after marrying:
#2 The two set off into their fairy tale sunset only to be met with disaster.
Less than 10 weeks after wedding, they were involved in a near-fatal crash crash. It didn't take their lives, but it did take something else.
#3 Krickitt ended up in a coma and on the brink of death. After 21 days in this state, she woke up with no memory of her wedding.
In fact, she had severe amnesia and couldn't even recognize her own beloved husband.
#4 In 1996, she told Oprah, "I lost about a two year period." Recovering was rough.
This newlywed couple started their first year of marriage while Krickitt was in diapers, required hand-feeding, and needed to learn to walk and talk again.
#5 Kim never left her side. His devotion to his bride was unshakable.
Here they are again, madly in love:
#6 Twenty years of marriage, a vow renewal,
..two beautiful children, and one Hollywood tearjerker later, their love remains as an inspiration to us all.
