The best cold beverage that can also serve as dessert is definitely the milkshake.

It got really popular decades ago, and still is.

Today there are hundreds of different milkshake recipes.

It is no longer just milk, ice cream and cherry on top beverage.

You can experiment a lot by using many ingredients

such as chocolate, marshmallows, caramel, peanut butter, or even different fruit, such as berries.

CALIFORNIA AVOCADO MILKSHAKE

Ingredients

1 ripe, fresh California avocado, seeded and peeled

3/4 cup sweetened condensed milk

3/4 cup whole milk

1 Tbsp. lime juice

2 cups ice cubes

Directions

Place all of the ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Serve in chilled glasses topped with your favorite toppings.

Recipe Notes: This milkshake is delicious plain or topped with your favorite toppings such as mini chocolate chips, sprinkles, chocolate syrup, toasted nuts, fresh berries, or whipped cream.

CHOCOLATE PEANUT BUTTER BANANA SHAKE

Ingredients

SHAKE

1 large ripe banana (~200 g), previously peeled, sliced and frozen

2 Tbsp (32 g) salted natural peanut butter (if unsalted, add a pinch of salt)

1-2 dates, pitted (if not sticky and moist, soak in hot water for 10 minutes, then drain)

1 Tbsp (5 g) cacao powder or unsweetened cocoa powder

1 to 1 1/2 cups (240 - 360 ml) Almond Breeze Almondmilk Original Unsweetened

Optional: 1/2 cup ice

ADD-INS

1 Tbsp cacao nibs for "chocolate chip" effect (blend in or use as topping)

1 Tbsp flax or hemp seeds for added nutrition

Dairy free chocolate sauce (for drizzling inside glass)

Coconut whipped cream for topping

Instructions

Add all ingredients except almond milk to the blender. Add in almond milk 1/2 cup at a time, adding only enough to allow the ingredients to blend together.

Add more for a thinner shake and less for a thicker shake.

Taste and adjust flavors, adding more banana or dates for sweetness, cacao for chocolate flavor, and peanut butter for saltiness. Optional: Add a handful of ice for extra thickness.

Serves 1 generously. Best when fresh, though leftovers will keep covered in the fridge for up to 24 hours. You could even freeze this into popsicles!

COCONUT, LIME AND WHITE CHOCOLATE MILKSHAKE

Ingredients

2 small (5.4 ounce) cans coconut cream

1 (13.6 ounce) can full fat coconut milk

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup unsweetened almond milk (or other milk of choice)

1/4 cup Norbu monk fruit sweetener or 1/2 cup coconut sugar

1/4 cup lime zest

1/2 cup fresh lime juice

1 cup white chocolate chips + more for garnish (optional)

1/4 cup shredded coconut for garnish (optional)

Lime wedges for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Stir or blend together the coconut cream, coconut milk and salt.

Freeze in small portions (such as an ice cube tray) or in a baking pan (so you can break it up before blending) for a couple of hours until mixture begins to firm up, but is not frozen solid.

Transfer semi-frozen coconut base to a high speed blender, and add remaining ingredients, except for the white chocolate, shredded coconut and lime wedges that you set aside for garnish.

Blend until it reaches your desired consistency - you may want to leave the chocolate chips a little bit chunky for some added texture, or continue to blend until it's completely smooth.

Pour into glasses, garnish and serve immediately.

Oreo Milkshake Recipe

Ingredients

Oreo Biscuits - 3 No

Milk - 1 cup

Heavy cream - 1 cup

Sugar - 2 tbsp

Chocolate syrup - For garnish

Method

In a blender gather all the ingredients and pulse them well till combined.

Serve them chilled.Garnish them with chocolate syrup and some crushed Oreo on top.

Peppermint Milkshake

Ingredients

For the Milkshake:

3 candy canes

3 cups vanilla ice cream

½ cup milk (2% preferred)

For the Whipped Cream:

2 cups cold heavy cream

1¼ cup powdered sugar

½ teaspoon vanilla extract

2 candy canes, crushed

Instructions

First, make your whipped cream. Whip together the powdered sugar, cream and vanilla until soft peaks form, about 5 minutes. Add more cream if too thick or more powdered sugar if too thin. Refrigerate the whipped cream until ready to use. Crush your candy canes, as these will be used as a garnish, and set aside.

In a blender, pulse your 3 candy canes until they form fine pieces. Add in the ice cream and milk and blend until smooth. Pour the shakes into cold glasses, then top with a dollop of whipped cream and some crushed candy canes.

SKINNY RASPBERRY MILKSHAKE RECIPE

INGREDIENTS:

1 cup non-fat frozen yogurt

1/2 cup skim or non-fat milk

1 cup frozen raspberries

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 packet sugar substitute

PREPARATION:

Add all of the ingredients into the blender and blend on high until smooth. You may find you need to stir it a few times and if you have a helper, watch they don't eat the ingredients!

S'mores Coffee Milkshake

INGREDIENTS:

FOR THE MILKSHAKE:

1/2 cup brewed coffee, chilled or cooled to room temp

1/2 cup marshmallow cream

4 cup vanilla ice cream

2 Tbsp chocolate syrup

FOR THE GARNISH:

1 Tbsp marshmallow cream

2 Tbsp crushed graham cracker

1/4 cup whipped cream

2 chocolate covered espresso beans

DIRECTIONS:

To the rim of two glasses, spread the 1 Tbsp of marshmallow cream on the lip of the rim. Drizzle the chocolate syrup onto the inside of the glass, in an up and down motions. To the rim of two glasses, spread the 1 Tbsp of marshmallow cream on the lip of the rim. Dip into crushed graham cracker and set aside.

In a blender, combine coffee, marshmallow cream and ice cream. Process until smooth and creamy. Pour into two glasses.

Top milkshake with whipped cream, add an espresso bean and enjoy immediately!

SNICKERS MILKSHAKE

Ingredients:

15 fun sized snickers bars, chopped

2 cups vanilla ice cream

1/3 cup milk

1/4 cup chocolate sauce

2 tablespoons caramel sauce plus more for drizzling, optional

1 cup sweetened whipped cream

Directions:

1. Place 14 chopped snicker's bars in a blender along with the ice cream, milk, chocolate sauce, and caramel sauce (if using).

2. Blend mixture for about 30 seconds to 1 minutes or until desired consistency has been achieved.

3. Divide milkshake into glasses and top with whipped cream. Finish with a sprinkle of chopped snickers and a drizzle of caramel sauce (if using). Serve.

HEALTHY STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE MILKSHAKE

Ingredients

1 cup Organic Strawberry Puree

1 cup Plain, Nonfat Greek Yogurt

1 cup Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk

30g (1/4 cup) Oat Flour

2 tbs Truvia Spoonable

1 tbs Homemade Metamucil

Instructions

*Wash your strawberries, slice the greens off and place in a blender. Puree until smooth, then pour into a measuring cup. Measure 1 cup and place back inside the blender.

Add the yogurt, almond milk, oat flour and Truvia into the blender and puree until smooth.

Sprinkle in the metamucil and give it one more blend.

Pour into chilled glasses and serve with fresh strawberries, healthy whipped cream or thick straws alone. Enjoy!
