The whole ordeal was caught on camera.
A delivery driver, clearly upset over not receiving a tip, ended up throwing a customer's order on the ground in frustration.
DoorDash, like many other platforms, offers the convenience of ordering groceries or takeout.
However, despite the convenience for users, delivery drivers often find it hard to make ends meet.
In the U.S., many drivers depend heavily on tips to supplement their low base earnings from deliveries.
In fact, some drivers choose not to accept orders if they see that no tip is included in advance.
There was even an instance where a driver tried to negotiate for a higher tip upon discovering the initial tip was only eight dollars, which they felt was inadequate for the effort required.
But one driver escalated the situation even further by discarding the customer’s order upon learning there was no tip included.
A video capturing the incident shows the driver approaching the customer’s door and asking: "Are you supposed to pay me?"
The customer, a bit confused, responds that they had 'paid you with the app,' to which the driver retorts: "It says zero."
Following a brief moment of silence, the customer asks: "Can I have my food?"
At this point, the driver simply throws the food away and walks off, leaving the customer understandably upset.
The footage was shared on social media accompanied by the defiant caption: "I don't have to leave a tip! End of story."
The public reaction to the driver's actions was predominantly negative, with many expressing disapproval of the food being discarded.
One social media user commented: "Do they not understand they will lose their job?"
Another stated: "Tipping isn't a requirement."
Yet another argued: "Paying the delivery fee and service charge is a big enough tip."
However, others, including some who claimed to have worked for DoorDash, believed that the customer should have indeed left a tip.
Another commentator suggested that if customers are reluctant to tip, perhaps they should consider picking up their orders themselves.
The debate over tipping continues to grow, now extending beyond traditional settings like restaurants.
One customer recently expressed their irritation after being prompted to tip for a walk-in haircut, highlighting the broadening scope of tipping culture.
