Although Johnny Depp's film career has suffered a knock as a result of the allegations and ongoing legal struggle with Amber Heard, he remains as popular in the fragrance world, with Dior reportedly selling a bottle of Sauvage, the perfume Depp is the face of, every three seconds last year.
Dior Sells A Bottle Of Johnny Depp's Fragrance Every Three Seconds
Pompliano went even further, calculating how much money Depp's perfume brought in for Dior.
He tweeted: "Despite most labels dropping Johnny Depp, @Dior decided to stick with him.”
"Why?”
"They sell a bottle of his fragrance 'Sauvage' every 3 seconds. At $160 a bottle, that's over $4.5 million a day in sales."
That's a lot of money, so it's no surprise that the perfume giant has decided to keep him on board.
It also implies that the actor's dismissal from the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and the Fantastic Beasts series does not indicate that he is struggling to stay afloat.
Depp was sacked from Warner Bros.' film Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore after he lost a libel action against The Sun newspaper in 2020 after they dubbed him a "wife-beater" in a published article.
There were several requests on Dior to follow suit at the time.
He has been the face of Sauvage fragrance since its launch in 2015, but after losing his case, a spokesperson for the Advertising Standards Authority said: "We have received a total of 11 complaints about this ad with the complainants believing that Johnny Depp shouldn't be in the ad due to details concerning his recent court case."
Mark Bokowski, a publicist, also urged that Depp should be dropped.
Speaking to The Guardian, he said: "I think it would be sensible for Dior to sever links with Depp. Anything can be stopped by pressing a button if they wanted to.”
"A brand like Dior is not just looking at this territory. The attitude [toward Depp] in the UK will be very different to the one in eastern Europe, for example.”
"Brands hope for short-term memory loss and long-term amnesia.”
"These fashion companies live in their bubble, it's like The Devil Wears Prada. They live in a world where they are used to facing controversy."
Dior, on the other hand, has been stuck by its man, and the scent appears to have weathered the ongoing Depp issue.
