Disabled Man Mowed Down And Dragged Into Road As Driver Refused To Stop
A shocking video that appeared to show a teenager running over a disabled guy in a wheelchair in a car park has surfaced online.
After being arrested, 17-year-old Pablo Antonio Avila-Banagas was charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, failing to stop and offer aid, and injuring a disabled person.
On September 3, just before 10 a.m., the 17-year-old was seen on surveillance footage in a parking lot in Austin, Texas, US.
A guy in an electric-powered wheelchair can be seen finding his way across the car park when a white pickup truck speeds into the frame.
He puts his hand up, waving for the driver to slow down.
But before accelerating away, the motorist runs him over, dragging him from the parking lot onto the road and skipping a curb.
A passing Austin Fire Department crew saw the incident and stopped to help the victim as the driver sped away.
The victim, who has not been named, was taken directly to a local hospital by police and fire department officers.
He suffered serious, possibly deadly injuries, according to Austin Police.
Six days after the incident, Avila-Banagas was detained, and on Friday, he was checked into the Travis County Jail.
According to police, the investigation is still ongoing.
