#1: The Tambora Volcano

This deadly volcano erupted in Indonesia at the island of Sumbava on 10th April, 1985. It was recorded that it was the highest eruption in the past 500 years and went 43 km high in the sky. The volcano caused 92,000 to 100,000 casualties.

#2: The Unzen Volcano

This 30 to 40 km long volcano erupted in the Shimbara peninsula, in Japan. The eruption started on 1st April, 1793 and continued for a month, after which the land sliding on the Mount Mayuyama caused a tsunami and killed nearly 15,000 people.

#3: Mount Pelee

The Mount Pelee situated on the island of Martinique started erupting in April 1902 after staying inactive for several years. The residents of the island were informed that the volcano could cause them no danger, so no protective measures were taken. The disastrous volcano killed nearly 30,000 people.

#4: The Krakatau Volcano

Located between the islands of Java and Sumatra, in the Sunda Straits, this volcano erupted in 1883 and killed 36,000 people.

#5: Nevado Del Ruiz Volcano

Located in Armero, Columbia, this devastating volcano erupted on 13th November, 1985 and killed nearly 23,000 people.

#6: The Vesuvius Volcano

Located in Italy, it is categorized as one of the 16 Decade volcanoes that have erupted several times in the past few years. However, the eruption in 1631 was extremely devastating and killed more than 6,000 people.

#7: The Taal Volcano

It is one of the 16 deadliest volcanoes located in Philippines, which destroyed almost 33 villages and has caused the death of 5,000 to 6,000 people altogether.

On 8th June, 1783 Iceland's Mount Laki erupted with 14 cubic kilometer of lava from 135 fissures and caused death of 9,000 people.

#9: The Kelut (Kelud) Volcano

Mount Kelut located in Indonesia caused one of the deadliest eruptions of the 20the century in 1919 and killed over 5100 people.

In 1882, this mountain released lava at the level of 5 VEI volcanic eruptions. The mountain is located in Indonesia. It destroyed 114 villages and killed around 4,011 people.

#11: The Papandayan Volcano

Mocated in West Java, Indonesia, the Paandayan volcano erupted in 1772 and caused the death of over 3,000 people destroying nearly 40 villages in the process.

This mountain is located in Papua New Guinea. On 21st January, 1951 it erupted in a disastrous way, making it one of the worst natural disasters of Australia. It caused the death of more than 3,500 people.

#13: El Chichon Volcano

The El Chichon Mountain in Mexico released ash flows that contained up to 2% sulfate, in 1986, causing death of 1,900 people.

#14: The Soufriere Volcano

The Soufriere volcano eruption of 1902 lasted for more than 24 hours and caused death of over 1,000 people.

Located in Japan, this deadly volcano caused one of the deadliest eruptions of the past 1,000 years in 1783 causing 1,491 casualties.
