#1 Conjoined Twins
Shellie was 20 weeks pregnant when she found out she was having twins. "[The doctor] said, âYou're having twins,' and my heart dropped. And then she said, âI think they're connected,' and my heart dropped again," Shellie told ABC News. "Their recommendation was to terminate."
#2 Suggested Abortion..
Shellie met with a specialist who told her that her babies would not survive separation. His advice was to have an abortion. "As he was telling me, I could literally feel the girls kicking in my belly and I knew that that wasn't something possible," Shellie said.
#3 Decided To Have Them..
She went against doctors recommendations and decided to have Allison and Amelia. She then searched for a second opinion, and doctors at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia determined the twins COULD survive separation. "I instantly said they were gorgeous. They both held on to my fingers, came out screaming and we knew we made the right choice," she said.
#4 The Surgery!
Doctors conducted a 7-hour surgery on the twins at 9 months old. It was a success. "At the end when the surgeons said they were separate, the weight of the world was off our shoulders," said their father, Greg Tucker.
#5 Happy 2 Year Olds
The twins are now 2 years old, and living life like any other happy and adventurous pair of sisters. This mother went with her own heart and the outcome was two beautiful girls to love and adore!
