Instead of sending a message to those who died in Rancho Tehama Reserve, California, he appeared to have copied and pasted a message meant for the 25 victims of the Sutherland Springs, Texas, attack, which happened on November 5.
Donald Trump Accused Of ‘Copying And Pasting’ Condolence Message About The Wrong Mass Shooting
Trump posted this message On 15 November 2017:
"May God be with the people of Sutherland Springs, Texas. The FBI and Law Enforcement have arrived."
The Sutherland Springs, Texas Church incident took place on Nov. 5. This tweet was same as the tweet he had posted about the Sutherland Springs shooting.
It appears Trump or a staffer mistakenly resent a tweet his account shared in the aftermath of that attack.
"May God be w/ the people of Sutherland Springs, Texas. The FBI & law enforcement are on the scene. I am monitoring the situation from Japan," he wrote.
The tweet was deleted eight hours later.
President Trump and the First Lady are no strangers to plagiarism accusations. During Tump’s presidential campaign, his wife Melania was famously accused of stealing her United Nations speech from the then-First Lady Michelle Obama.
Twitter users were quick to slam Trump after the Tweet.
Twitter user Matt McDermott wrote:
“The President of the United States is tweeting at midnight about the wrong mass shooting and it’s like the 500th most insane Trump story of the week.”
Another added:
"Trump just tweeted again about the church shooting in Sutherland Springs. The 1st tweet was the day of the event, 9 days ago. Is this his shooting tweet template? He forgot to change the location to today's shooting: California."
Other Twitter users took the opportunity to comment on America’s current gun control laws.
"The fact that the US president can’t even keep track of all the mass shootings is a fairly compelling argument for gun reform.”
The California gunman was identified as Kevin Janson Neal, 43.
Neal began the attack by shooting people at random in his hometown of the Rancho Tehama Reserve. He stole a truck and began drive-by shootings before attempting to break into an elementary school.
Unable to gain access to the building, he fired at its walls and windows instead.
Police shot and killed the gunman, and believe the rampage began as a "domestic violence" incident. The dead ranged in age from 18 months to 77 years old. At least four people died and about 20 people were wounded in the shooting.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention:
"More than 33,000 people die annually in the United States from gun-related deaths." Our condolences are with all the recent mass shooting victims and we hope that president trump will not reuse more tweets about sensitive issues in near future.
