President Donald Trump has reshared a social media post that appeared to target young children for wearing hijabs at school.

The video was first posted by the far-right account 'End Wokeness' and appeared to show kindergarten-age students at a school graduation in Minnesota.

In the clip, the children stand on stage in caps and gowns, the same kind of outfits students across the US often wear for graduation. They can be seen singing, smiling, and marking what should have been a happy school moment.

Under their graduation caps, several of the girls can also be seen wearing hijabs.

The account shared the clip with its 3.9 million followers on X while the children's faces were still visible. The caption read: "Public school in St. Paul, Minnesota. Every girl is in a hijab ... in kindergarten."

The fact that the students were so young became one of the main reasons the repost drew anger, especially because the video had not blurred their faces.

Why the repost drew concern

The school shown in the clip was later identified by MPR News as Gateway STEM Academy, a public charter school in St. Paul.

For many critics, the issue was not only that Trump reshared the clip. It was that a video of kindergarteners wearing religious clothing was pushed into a national political argument while the children were still clearly shown.

Muslim and Somali American community members in Minnesota also raised safety concerns after the post spread, with leaders warning that young students should not be used as targets in online political fights.

Trump, 80, reshared the post on Truth Social without adding any extra comment of his own.

The account that first posted the clip then acknowledged his repost by saying that 'Trump just posted this on Truth Social'.

The video from the school was condemned by Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, who responded on his own social media page and criticized Trump directly.

"The President of the United States is attacking a group of kindergarteners because of the clothes they wore to school," Walz wrote on X.

Trump has also made offensive remarks about Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar and people with Somali heritage living in the US. During a televised cabinet meeting, he referred to them as 'garbage'.

"I don't want them in our country," Trump said, per the BBC. "I'll be honest with you ... Somebody will say, 'Oh, that's not politically correct'."

The repost also comes during a tense period between Trump's second administration and Minnesota, after increased ICE raids in the state led to protests and civil unrest.

Two people, both US citizens, were shot dead by ICE agents in Minnesota in January 2026. Renée Good, 37, was shot dead by an agent on January 7, while 37-year-old ICU nurse Alex Pretti was fatally shot by federal officers on January 24.
