Stephen Whalen tried to convince the police officers that the plastic bag in his bag is nothing but breath mints. However, the officer remembered him from his previous charges and knew that his driver's license was also revoked. The man is now booked on charges of possession of methamphetamine, fentanyl, and drug paraphernalia, and driving without a license and was booked into the county jail on $4400 bond.
Stephen Whalen, 32, a drug suspect from Florida tried to convince the police that a plastic shopper found in his backpack contained only breath mints and not meth, as per an arrest report.
Stephen was reportedly driving a PT Cruiser when a police officer on patrol in Tarpon Springs, Florida spotted him behind the wheel.
The officer remembered Stephen from a “prior police related incident” and was aware his driver’s license had been revoked.
Stephen was taken into police custody and the Chrysler was searched. Inside Whalen’s backpack police say they found assorted drug paraphernalia and a baggie containing 2.6 grams of meth.
Stephen was reportedly interrogated about the seized narcotics and claimed that “the meth was not meth and it was breath mints,” a cop reported. He “would not elaborate on anything else” regarding his curiously strong mints.
Now the man is facing charges of possession of methamphetamine, fentanyl, and drug paraphernalia, and driving without a license,
He was booked into the county jail on $4400 bond.
The arrested man's rap sheet also includes charges for battery; burglary; narcotics sales; trespass; dealing in stolen property; narcotics possession; and providing a false name to law enforcement.
He was released from state prison in February 2020 after serving about 18 months in custody on multiple drug convictions.
