The ancient pyramids of Egypt have long stood as marvels of the ancient world, but it seems Dubai is setting its sights on creating a modern wonder that might just give the historic structures a run for their money.

The city, located in the United Arab Emirates, has unveiled plans for a colossal pyramid that aims to eclipse the size of the Great Pyramid of Giza.

Back in 2008, the world got its first glimpse of what would be known as the Ziggurat Pyramid, with hopes set on beginning construction in 2021 and aiming for completion by 2028.

Drawing inspiration from both Egyptian and Mayan pyramids, the design for the Ziggurat Pyramid imagines these ancient structures on an unprecedented scale.

The Ziggurat Pyramid is envisioned to tower over both the Burj Khalifa and the Downtown Circle, reaching a staggering height of 1,200 meters.

Spanning a massive area of 2.3 square kilometers, the pyramid is designed to accommodate up to one million residents.

One of the most remarkable aspects of the project is its commitment to sustainability.

The entire structure is planned to be carbon-neutral, relying solely on renewable energy sources such as solar panels, wind, and other natural means to power its extensive facilities.

Moreover, the pyramid is expected to feature its own comprehensive public transport system, facilitating movement not just horizontally but also vertically within the building, potentially eliminating the need for cars.

This futuristic mode of transport aligns with the building's ambition to house 300 floors dedicated to residential, commercial, and recreational purposes, transforming the way people live and work.

The visionary mega-project is the brainchild of Timelinks, a Dubai-based collective of urban planners, scientists, and architectural designers.

Ridas Matonis, the managing director of Timelinks, shared with Flashy Dubai:

"Ziggurat communities can be almost totally self-sufficient energy-wise.

"Apart from using steam power in the building we will also employ wind turbine technology to harness natural energy resources.

"Whole cities can be accommodated in complexes which take up less than 10 percent of the original land surface.

"Public and private landscaping will be used for leisure pursuits or irrigated as agricultural land."

The Ziggurat Pyramid may also feature cutting-edge security measures, including facial recognition technology, ensuring the safety and privacy of its inhabitants.
