Do you or does your significant other have hair in their ears?

Or an earlobe crease?

Surprisingly, these two attributes have been tied to heart disease and the risk of having a heart attack. But how?

Research done in the 1980s and '90s has shown that these two characteristics can predict whether you will have a heart attack or not.

The rates of coronary artery disease were compared between men with or without an earlobe crease in an Indian population. They found that the presence of both a crease and hair positively correlated with coronary artery disease.

Some people believe these findings may be related to testosterone levels.

One theory out there is that ear hair follicles may become more sensitive to testosterone in older age. Because of this, the amount of ear hair someone has may be an indicator of testosterone levels. As mentioned before, there is a known connection between heart disease and testosterone.

Ear hair isn't directly causing heart disease, but it may have some predictive ability.

More research is needed on the connection between ear hair/creases and whether they truly predict heart disease and attacks.

The correlations are somewhat concerning, though. It may be a good idea to talk to your doctor about the possible connection during your next appointment.

So don't think that running out and getting an ear hair trimmer is going to improve your heart health.
