Fans around the world mourned as Kobe Bryant played his last professional game of basketball. But true fans had a chance to buy a bag of air from the game on eBay before the company removed the listing as fraudulent.
eBay Removes Listing For ‘Air From Kobe Bryant’s Last Game’ After It Reaches $15,000
#1 Kobe's Final NBA Game
NBA legend Kobe Bryant recently played his final game at the Staples Center in Las Angeles to a sold out crowd of cheering fans. For those in attendance, there were souvenirs a plenty for sale. From posters, tee shirts, to hats inlaid with 3 1/2 ounces of 18-karat gold for $38,000. It was Kobe-mania as everyone wanted something to memorialize the basketball great. The fans were crazy knowing they would never see the Laker's score maker play again.
#2 Opportunity Only Knocks Once
One clever opportunist jumped on the bandwagon and decided to sell his souvenir from the event on eBay. After the game, a man posted a plastic bag with a piece of tape and the words 'Air from Kobe's Final game' written across it. He started the bidding for the bag of air at one dollar.
#3 Thank You Kobe For The Air
The guy claimed that it was air from the game and that he had captured it in a zip lock bag for posterity. Sports Illustrated reports that starting bids on the bag started at $1, but rose significantly throughout the weekend.
#4 Only In America
Somehow the empty bag of air had people bidding on it, and the price quickly rose to $15,000 before eBay noticed the sale. There was a total of 94 people who actually believed they would be getting air from the game. AIR. They bid on a bag of air, that could or could not be from the actual game. Nobody could verify this for certain.
#5 eBay Let The Air Out Of The Bag
eBay heads found out about it and decided to quickly remove the listing, which must have been a complete and utter shock for the guy who made it, because he was looking at picking up a sweet $15K for doing pretty much nothing. Interested buyers will have to look elsewhere for the air that is claimed to preserve Black Mamba's final NBA moments.
Air for sale on eBay is not new, however. Last year a bag of air supposedly from a Kanye West concert reached a bid of $60,000 before being removed from the auction site as fraudulent.
