Elon Musk has expressed concern that, rather than Vladimir Putin's nuclear weapons, the greatest threat to humanity may come from people not having enough sex.

The internet entrepreneur is well known for his SpaceX initiative and plans to colonize Mars to make humanity an interplanetary species.

Elon has recently turned his attention to problems closer to home in addition to his interest in extraterrestrial issues, even challenging Vladimir Putin to combat in the wake of the autocrat's invasion of Ukraine.

On the Full Send podcast, Elon remarked that it is unlikely that humanity will survive due to a nuclear war.

“I’d say the biggest threat right now is population collapse; the super-low birth rate… We have an underpopulation problem.”

“There was a huge baby boom where people did have a ton of kids after World War Two, but the birth rate in the US has been below replacement rate since like 1971 or 1972, for 50 years the US has been below replacement rate.”

“What we face is population collapse. People have no idea how fast the population’s going to collapse.”

The entrepreneur noted that a rise in life expectancy is the main factor keeping population rates from falling right now.

Elon cautioned that populations will start to decline as "adult diapers" start to exceed infant diapers.

The younger people would therefore be outnumbered and unable to reproduce quickly enough to support their elderly, according to his argument.

“A low birth rate is a slow death for civilization, it’s not a fast death. The average age starts drifting up, and basically, civilization will die with a whimper and adult diapers,” he mourned.

“Frankly, given the choice, I’d rather civilization went out with a bang than a whimper and adult diapers.”

Elon, when asked what a "bang" may signify, he replied "World War Three."

Elon jokingly said that by having numerous children of his own, he had done his part to encourage others to think about having children by the time they were in their 30s.

The software tycoon hasn't shared many details about his children with the general public, but he disclosed on the podcast episode that he had nine children with three different moms and had his first child when he was just 29 years old.

“The youngest is just a baby, and the oldest is 18, so I’m trying to set a good example here by having a lot of kids,” he chuckled.
