Younger fans of Eminem are probably more familiar with his notorious clash with Machine Gun Kelly from 2018.

But long before Marshall Mathers and MGK engaged in combat, another rapper was the victim of the Detroit musician's savage tongue.

Eminem and Ja Rule were into a diss-track spat in the early 2000s, but strangely, their animosity was inherited.

According to Ranker, 50 Cent's stormy past with Ja Rule served as a catalyst for the beef.

Ja Rule went after 'Lose Yourself' vocalist, Ken Mathers, putting bars all over some of his songs, apparently furious that Eminem and Dr. Dre would add 50 to their label.

Ja Rule's bars, directed at Eminem's partner Kim and daughter Hailie, clearly got under Eminem's skin.

However, Eminem was no stranger to diss tracks, having established his reputation in the underground rap battle scene.

“Em, you claim your mother’s a crackhead and Kim is a known s*** / So what’s Hailie gonna be when she grows up?" Ja wrote in one of his songs.

With the vicious song "Hailie's Revenge," an enraged Shady gathered his group and fired back.

When it was released in April 2003, Em was going after his rival rapper right away.

It was a full-on act of retaliation.

"Hailie, what do you want to be when you grow up, baby?" the song opens with.

"I don't know, but I don't want to grow up to be like Ja Rule's little dirty-a** kids...bring daddy's Oscar, we're gonna shove it up Ja Rule's a**".

Fans and the media alike have accused Ja of ripping off the iconic rapper Tupac's sound during his early career.

In Hailie's Revenge, Eminem took advantage of the chance to remind folks of this reality.

"You on Pac's d***, you a replica guy. If he was still alive, you would never get by. All you do is cry, b****, keep it real. Life is more than imitating and eating pills," he wrote.

Eminem's jab at Ja Rule is ranked by Ranker as his most vicious, followed closely by his Killshot response to MGK.

"Insult me in a line, compliment me on the next, damn, I'm really sorry you want me to have a heart attack, Was watchin' 8 Mile on my NodricTrack, Realised I forgot to call you back," In 'Killshot,' Eminem raps on how MGK used to be one of his fans.

"Here's that autograph for your daughter, I wrote it on a Starter cap, Stan, Stan, son, listen, man, dad isn't mad, But how you gonna name yourself after a damn gun and have a man bun?"

The rivalry between Eminem and Ja Rule, with its fiery diss tracks and personal attacks, remains a memorable chapter in hip-hop history.
