Netflix always offers a wide variety of shows and movies, but let’s be real, many of the most popular ones tend to be pretty dark.

Sure, people love those intense options, from true crime documentaries that leave viewers feeling ‘deeply disturbed’ to ‘super creepy’ series about real-life murders.

But one of the latest movies to hit the streaming platform is a bit lighter, with fans saying they’ve ‘never laughed so much’.

That said, this cheeky Netflix release is definitely ‘not for prudes’.

Based on a pretty wild true story, Wicked Little Letters made its debut in cinemas earlier this year and boasts an impressive 92 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The British film features some major stars, including Olivia Colman, Jessie Buckley, Anjana Vasan, Hugh Skinner, and Timothy Spall.

Even Alisha Weir, the little girl from the ‘best horror of 2024’, Abigail, makes an appearance.

Set in the seaside town of Littlehampton in 1920, the film revolves around local women who start receiving wicked letters filled with hilarious profanities.

Olivia Colman stars in the film. StudioCanal

Rose Gooding (played by Buckley), known for her foul mouth, gets charged with the crime, but things aren’t exactly what they seem.

Netflix’s age rating of 15 is definitely justified, as Wicked Little Letters is packed with crude, insulting, and, well, pretty filthy language.

But that’s precisely what makes it so funny.

One viewer shared their thoughts in our Netflix Bangers group on Facebook, recommending it to others: “If you need a good laugh and are not prudish, then I 100 percent recommend watching Wicked Little Letters. I've never laughed so much; it's brilliant.”

It's not one for the prudish. StudioCanal

Many others agreed, calling it ‘excellent and funny’ with a ‘fantastic cast’.

The new film also holds a notable 80 percent on the Tomatometer.

Critics have said: “This is the type of film that Britain excels at, films with a strong message about class, gender, and a specific time and place. Yet, it’s not above fart jokes, slapstick humor, and the sheer joy of hearing Olivia Colman scream the C-word.”

Another critic remarked: “Wicked Little Letters is a riot, guaranteed to entertain viewers. It’s perfect as a Friday night film, offering a light-hearted dramedy.”

Others chimed in, saying: “Olivia Colman and Jessie Buckley are on fire in this hilarious comedy. Anjana Vasan shines with a standout performance in this foul-mouthed comedy that will have you rolling in the aisles.”
