Fireflies are amazing nocturnal insects that produce luminous light. The glow-worm belongs to the same family but is slightly different.

Fireflies are adorable little creatures that can do no harm to humans. They cannot sting, they catty no diseases and cant even pinch.

Fireflies are considered the slowest fliers in the insect world.

Fireflies have soft bodies and their body vary between 5 mm and 25 mm long.

#8 Can be found everywhere.
Fireflies can be everywhere in the world except for Antarctica.

Fireflies are considered the only luminous thing in the world that can generate light without heat.

#10 Flash to attract their male partners.
Female fireflies flash light to their male partners to attract them. Cool!

#11 Flashing is multipurpose.
Fireflies do not flash just for the mating ritual but also flash top put off predators to scare them off.

#12 Using their light to generate different signals.
Fireflies can control their light to generate signals for different reasons.

#13 Chemical reaction.
Fireflies produce light in their body through a chemical reaction called bioluminescence.
