Son excluded from vacation because he didn't see his father's email on time. Dad defends himself on Reddit saying that it was on the son for not responding on time.
Father Excludes Son From Vacation Because He Didn't Check His Email
People who email you include spam, your boss, your bank, and for this one guy, his dad. Unfortunately for him, he missed out on vacation because of it.
A Reddit user had found a vacation deal to the Cook Islands that he simply could not pass up and because time is of the essence he decided to email his son who was away for college. When he didn't receive a response to his email, he tried calling on Sunday, asking him to respond.
OP added that he didn't want to waste money if his son wasn't willing to go.
When the son responded, OP said it was too late and that he had already bought tickets for the rest of the family.
He also added that his son needed to answer his phone and check his email. His son responded by saying that most people communicate through text in this day in age.
His mom, OP's ex reached out to OP to tell him that their son was Gen Z and that they didn't really check their email.
OP said that he didn't care. For context, OP is in his forties and perfectly capable of using Reddit so this commitment to email was strange, to say the least.
Commenters also saw the holes in OP's story and asked follow-up questions. They wondered why a father and son's primary mode of communication would be email.
OP responded to the above commenter saying that in this case, organizing a holiday was a business deal for him.
Another commenter added that many scenarios could have gone down but that OP had put very little effort into including his son.
OP, with true boomer energy (despite not being a boomer), responded, "He's not busier than I am."
Another commenter was weirded out by OP's strange attitude towards the entire situation.
For most, it seemed like OP had very little regard for his son.
They also wondered why OP did not know the best way to reach out to his son in the first place. It indicated that communication with his son didn't happen very often in the first place.
For most, texting wasn't this new-fangled thing that OP could not get behind.
