Honor killing has been part of Turkish culture for long. According to statistics, there has been an alarming increase in the incidences of honor killing and honor violence over the past few years. Even though Turkey changed its lenient laws towards honor killings but it seems like they have not created much impact on the Turkish society as not much change has been observed in the incidences.

Uzan in Central Turkey came live on Facebook, where he looked distressed and told the viewers, “I am live streaming tonight, and it is my will, I do not want the ones who put me in this position to attend my funeral.” Before fatally shooting himself, Uzan said, “Goodbye, I am leaving, take good care of yourselves.” Uzan did this act when he was alone at home.

Uzan said his daughter married without his permission and no one treated him like a man. His daughter called him to inform after the marriage. He further said, “Nobody asked me. Nobody treated me like a man. My father-in-law took my place and without having a right, he approved my daughter’s wedding … Nobody said this girl’s father is alive. Though I would have waited for my daughter and family to say to me: ‘Come, Father, be with us.”

During the video, friends, and relatives pleaded to Uzan to stop it and to not do anything foolish. But Uzan wallowing in his grief listened to no one and took the final step in protest. Uzan's family rushed back to home to find his dead body. The body was later transferred to the morgue and an investigation has been launched by the Police.

In response to this incident, a statement is released by Facebook officials, it said, “We are deeply saddened by this tragedy. We don’t allow the promotion of self-injury or suicide on Facebook. We want people to have a safe experience on Facebook and we work with organizations around the world to provide assistance for people in distress.”
