Incredible footage showing daredevil Felix Baumgartner leaping from the edge of space back down to Earth has started making the rounds again, following the sad news of his passing.

Baumgartner tragically lost his life in a paragliding accident that happened in Le Marche, Italy, on the afternoon of July 17.

The 56-year-old Austrian adventurer reportedly crashed into a swimming pool located at the Le Mimose campsite. After the impact, he lost consciousness and suffered cardiac arrest.

He had traveled nearly six miles from his starting point in Fermo before the accident occurred. However, what exactly caused him to lose control during the flight remains unclear.

According to reports, Baumgartner had mentioned not feeling well prior to takeoff. He had also posted a video to his Instagram showing himself gliding in circles over an open field, with the caption: "Too much wind."

A woman was also hurt during the crash and taken to the hospital. Thankfully, The Telegraph notes that her injuries are not believed to be serious.

Throughout his remarkable career, Baumgartner achieved a total of 14 World Records. But the moment that truly defined him for many was when he jumped from the edge of space capturing every second of the breathtaking fall with a GoPro camera.

Back in 2012, he joined forces with Red Bull to take on a sky-high challenge. The mission had him plummeting from 26 miles above Earth, reaching a jaw-dropping speed of 844 miles per hour and becoming the first person to ever break the sound barrier in free fall.

Check out the incredible footage here:

Baumgartner was the perfect pick for Red Bull's extreme project. He had an extraordinary background in skydiving that started when he was just 16 years old.

Before taking on the final jump, he went through two intense test dives. In the first, he dropped 21,818 meters at a speed of 360 mph. In the second, he jumped from a height of 29,460 meters and hit speeds of 536 mph.

Both of those trials were successful, which cleared the way for him to attempt the main event.

On October 14, 2012, the daredevil soared 39 kilometers into the sky over Roswell, New Mexico, using a massive helium balloon. It was there that he made his historic leap. Just 42 seconds into the fall, he reached 834 mph. But there was a scary moment when he started spinning uncontrollably.

Thankfully, Baumgartner managed to regain control mid-air. Then, at four minutes and 16 seconds into his fall, he deployed his parachute. He ended up reaching a top speed of 844 mph during the jump.

The footage captured by GoPro cameras during the event was groundbreaking. The company later shared their thoughts on the jump: "Millions across the globe watched as he opened the door of the capsule, stepped off the platform, and broke the speed of sound while free falling safely back to Earth."

"Felix set three world records that day and inspired us all to reach beyond the limits of our own realities, and reimagine our potential to achieve the incredible."

"GoPro was honoured to be a part of this epic achievement, with seven HERO2 cameras documenting every moment."

"From the airless freeze of outer space, to the record-breaking free fall and momentous return to ground, see it all through Felix's eyes as captured by GoPro, and experience this incredible mission like never before. No one gets you closer than this."
