Find Out Why These Twins Were Denied Driver's Permits!
#1 Georgia Teens Denied Permits
Alicia and Alicen Kennedy are proof that two heads are not always better than one, at least according to the Department of Motor Vehicles.
Take a close look at their picture. Can you tell them apart? The state of Georgia sure can't.
#2 Told There Was A Computer Malfunction
When they applied, they clerk said it was not going to happen. "We gave her our paperwork but we didn't even get a chance to take the test because she kept saying something was wrong with the computer," twin, Alicia said.
#3 Suspicious Identity
After applying for their permits, the girls were given some heartbreaking news. The pair left empty-handed after being told the imaging system recognized one of them as a 'fraud'. The clerk even said that it could be because of suspicious identity.
#4 Was It Fraud?
The computer can recognize faces, a feature that comes in handy if somebody's is trying to get an illegal ID It apparently is not programmed to detect twins.
Alicia said she took her picture several times and then had to sign her signature several more times. She says she felt like it was her fault.
Twin sister Alicen then added: 'I was listening to her conversation with the person on the phone and it said that one of us popped up as a fraud.'
#5 The Computer Can't Recognize Twins
"The other lady came back and said that when we were taking our pictures it was picking up as saying that we were one person instead of two different people," Alicia said.
The technology was developed to detect anyone trying to obtain a fake ID by crosschecking their face against the DMV database to see if there are any matches.
The girls were eventually turned away and told that the DMV would have to look into the program being used.
#6 Told They May Need To Wait Up To A Year
Now the girls have to regroup. They have to get ready for whatever the state says comes next, as they continue their quest to get behind the wheel, while the state of Georgia figures out what they can do to distinguish the twins.
"I want my permit, I don't want to wait a whole other year," Alicia said.
#7 DDS Says This Has Never Happened Before
Georgia Department of Driver Services says that this has never happened before, and the Kennedy twins are the very first. Perhaps because they look so much alike.
#8 This HAS Happened Before
A set of twins in Utah ran into a similar situation in August. The sisters filed separate paperwork a week apart. Soon after, both received a letter requesting they return to the Utah Driver's License Division location in Farmington, they said.
The issue was resolved after the pair proved their separate identities.
