21 years after going missing, a Florida couple discovered their long-lost diamond engagement ring in a toilet.
Florida Couple Finds Their Engagement Ring In Toilet 21 Years Later
Twenty-one years after the wedding of a couple, their engagement ring was found stuck in a toilet.
Shaina Day accepted Nick Day's marriage proposal 21 years ago, but she quickly lost track of the pledge of his love.
She came to me one day and said, “I think I lost my ring,” Nick told WFLA. She said, “It was on the counter now it’s gone and I think I may have flushed it down the toilet on accident.”
At the time, the couple searched their Lakeland, Florida, home for the diamond ring but were unable to find it.
‘I climbed down into the septic tank so we could pump every bit of it through a strainer to try to find it,’ Shaina, 43, told the TV station. ‘No luck.’
Renee, the mother of Nick, hired a local plumber to replace her toilet in November. The plumber opened it up and discovered a precious object inside.
"Do you think it's Shaina's ring?" he said. then as I took another look, I exclaimed, "Oh my God, yes!" said Renee.
Nick's parents cleaned the ring, wrapped it, and gave it to the newlyweds on Christmas Night.
Shaina was crying.
‘It was kind of an ugly cry,’ Shaina said. ‘I sat there and I was like, “Oh my gosh, this is my ring. This is my ring.” I’m wiping my eyes and mascara is going everywhere.’
When his parents presented it, Nick claimed that they both "knew exactly what it was," even though it was wrapped in a little Christmas bag.
The band had become black, but the diamond remained intact. The pair suggested that they might include the diamond in a brand-new piece of jewelry. Additionally, they are considering passing it on to a later generation.
However, they did agree on one thing.
‘Check your toilets when you lose things,’ Nick said.
About a month after a college softball team assisted a man in finding his engagement ring for his girlfriend among tornado debris, the couple was reunited with their ring.
