Floyd Mayweather Jr has talked up a potential fight with Conor McGregor by declaring he ‘absolutely' believes the bout will go ahead.

Speculation has been rife amid talks of a potential showstopper fight between undisputed boxing legend Mayweather and former UFC featherweight champion McGregor- a crossover fight which would be the first of its kind.

Mayweather, who announced his retirement in the ring after defeating Andre Berto last year, could be tempted to put his gloves on for one last bout to meet the Irishman in a Las Vegas for the mega-fight.

With rumours growing stronger, boxing and UFC experts have dismissed McGregor's chances of challenging the undefeated American who hung up his gloves at 49-0. But with number 50 in his mind, Mayweather confirmed the fight could go ahead.

‘We're the A-side, of course. It has to be a boxing match, because most fights that Conor McGregor won inside the Octagon, he was a stand-up guy. So I'm pretty sure it's gonna be a tough fight for me.

‘We really don't know as of right now, but there's been a lot of talk, and hopefully we can make the fight happen.'
