If 2017 has taught us anything it is that you really have to listen to people when they make even the most bizarre claims. For example, we would never have guessed that Kevin Spacey was sexually harassing young men, but it ended up being quite true. We have all become a bit wiser and even less cynical after a year of crazy headlines and scary stories. So, when former Dr. Phil guests made accusations that they were tricked into drinking alcohol and taking drug before they appeared on the show, we cannot help but listen to their tales.
Former Guests Reveal What Really Happens Behind The Scenes Of The Dr. Phil Show
#1
Former addicts and guests of the Dr. Phil show claimed that they were offered to be publicly treated for their problems at no cost to them. That is just how the show works. What the viewers do not see is where the crew allegedly will ply the guests with substances to make sure that they are intoxicated before they go on stage. This makes them look like they are worse off than they really are in order to create a more dramatic transformation.

Todd Herzog is a former guest who was on the show back in 2013. He says that his life was put at risk because of the show. Viewers of this episode were horrified when he came to the stage so drunk that he blew a 0.263 on the breathalyzer. That is three times the legal limit for driving.

Herzog was battling alcoholism. He says that when he got to the studio, he was completely sober. This changed when he found a full bottle of Smirnoff vodka in his dressing room.
#4
He says that it was planted there intentionally to tempt him. He ended up drinking the entire bottle before he came on stage. He also claims that he was given Xanax in order to help calm his nerves.
#5
By itself, this claim seems to be farfetched. However, many other former guests have come forward with similar stories. In another incident, Marianne Smith was sent to LA's Skid Row in order to score some heroin for her drug-addicted niece, Jourdan, who was on the show in 2012. Smith could not remember the name of the producer but did remember that she was told to keep quiet about the incident.

Joelle King-Parrish was a mother who brought her pregnant, heroin-addicted daughter Kaitlin to the show recalls who the show would not provide her with any medical attention while she was going through withdrawals. She was forced to take her to the hospital but was refused help there as well. She was desperate and turned to Dr. Phil for help.

The show offered no help. Joelle had to score heroin for her daughter in order to help relieve some of her pain. A member of the show's staff joined her while she was out looking for the drug. The entire incident was caught on camera and shown on the air totally out of context.

"They were, I guess, desperate to do something," Herzog, who is now sober, explains. "Of course it’s going to create attention and they were right."
"You know, I get that it’s a television show and that they want to show the pain that I’m in," Herzog said. "However, what would have happened if I died there? You know, that’s horrifying."

In the meantime, Martin Greenberg who is a psychologist who is the 'director of professional affairs' for the show says that the allegations are completely not true. He says that addicts are liars who deflect and trivialize things to get their way.
