The former couple were married in 2015 and stayed together for seven years before splitting
Former NFL player Matt Kalil has filed a lawsuit against his ex-wife, Haley Kalil, following comments she made publicly about his body.
The pair were married in 2015 and spent seven years together before their relationship came to an end. In 2022, Haley filed for divorce and listed irreconcilable differences as the reason. Matt has since remarried and tied the knot with Keilani Asmus in 2024, and the two now share a child.
In November, Haley spoke openly about what she claimed were some of the reasons behind their split, alleging that their relationship suffered from problems in the bedroom that she linked to his physical attributes.
While discussing the breakup during a livestream with Marlon Garcia, Haley typed a message on her phone and showed it to him. She then dropped her arm onto the desk, appearing to use the gesture as a visual reference.
"Deadass… for our whole marriage, deadass," she said. "But I was going to try it all. We tried it all: therapist, doctors. Not even lying… Looked up lipo-type s**t…"
"That's why it's kinda funny. It's like my life is a comedy, and it kinda writes itself. That was the biggest factor… Love him, but he's my homie. We've tried, impossible unless you're going to be in tears type s**t."
Haley later went into more detail, claiming that Matt’s size reminded her of “two Coke cans on top of each other,” and possibly even more.
"We were always actually just kind of homies, like, I didn't really know what romantic love was yet at that time because I didn't know enough," she said.
"He's a really good guy. I got really lucky 'cause he could have been a piece of garbage and he was the best dude. Greatest person."
According to TMZ, Matt has now taken legal action against his ex-wife for invasion of privacy. In the lawsuit, he claims she disclosed highly intimate and private information and argues that she gained financial benefit, higher viewership, increased engagement, and monetization across social media platforms and wider media coverage as a result.
He also alleges that the comments led to unwanted attention and invasive remarks from members of the public, adding that his family has been forced to endure the continued circulation of what he describes as degrading and deeply personal statements.
TMZ further reports that the lawsuit claims Matt’s current wife, Keilani, has received messages that are said to be increasingly frequent, disturbing, and alarming since the comments were made public.
The legal filing seeks damages of more than $75,000, with Matt requesting a jury trial and compensation across all claims listed in the lawsuit.
After news of the lawsuit became public, Haley told TMZ Sports: "Litigation is a harrowing and emotionally draining experience, and I am heartbroken that he is choosing to subject us and our families to this ordeal."
She had previously told Page Six that she cares deeply about his privacy and the integrity of what they shared during their marriage, adding: "During our livestream, we talked about so much more than what's being highlighted — the love in our marriage, the growth we experienced, the depth of our connection."
"It's unfortunate that only one fragment is being amplified, because it doesn't capture the full story of how meaningful things were to me. I hope our hour-and-a-half-long conversation reflects more than a funny soundbite."
