A nutritionist has spoken about why getting the right nutrients matters when it comes to supporting libido and which everyday foods can help provide those nutrients.

For many people, New Year’s resolutions focus on removing things from their lives, whether that means cutting out certain foods or banning habits altogether, but that approach can be limiting.

Instead, looking at 2026 as a chance to add healthier choices into daily routines may be a more balanced way to support both physical health and overall wellbeing.

When it comes to diet, completely cutting out foods or following strict plans can often do more harm than good. These extremes can affect mental health and can also have a direct impact on libido.

Personal trainer and nutritionist Toby King explained how closely what we eat is linked to sexual desire and performance. He also highlighted certain foods that may help bring libido back on track or give it a boost, setting a healthier tone for the year ahead.

Speaking with adult website SoloFun, King stressed that missing key nutrients can affect your energy levels, hormones, and mood. When those areas suffer, libido often follows, which is why he shared four foods that may help you step off that cycle and feel more balanced.

Leafy green vegetables

Broccoli, kale, spinach, salad greens, and similar vegetables may seem simple, but leafy greens play a strong role in helping the body function at its best.

Healthline notes that leafy green vegetables offer “numerous health benefits,” including helping manage blood pressure, lowering the risk of obesity, preventing disease, and supporting red blood cell production and bone strength.

Toby added that leafy greens also “contain nutrients such as nitrates, magnesium and folate that help blood vessels relax and widen, improving circulation, supporting lubrication, sensitivity and performance” while also helping maintain hormonal balance and healthy testosterone levels.

These vegetables can also reduce inflammation, improve digestion, and support the immune system, and feeling run down or sick rarely helps anyone feel confident or relaxed in the bedroom.

Nuts and seeds

Nuts often get a bad reputation because of their fat content, but that should not stop people from including them in their diet.

Almonds, hazelnuts, cashews, and other nuts and seeds are rich in antioxidants. Healthline explains that they can help reduce the risk of heart disease, lower cholesterol, and may also help manage blood pressure and blood sugar levels, which can ease stress.

Lower stress levels make it easier to relax, switch off from work, screens, and daily pressures, and actually spend quality time with a partner.

Toby explained: "Many people want to feel in the mood, but they just can't because they are overstimulated. Including nuts and seeds in your diet can help to support your nervous system, which allows you to switch desire back on."

"There's good evidence showing that regularly eating nuts is linked to improvements in sexual desire and orgasm quality, especially in men."

Eggs

Eggs may look simple, but the combination of yolk and whites plays a role in supporting steady nerve function and hormone production.

Toby pointed to research that supports this, explaining that men “who eat eggs, fruit and vegetables are less aggressive than men who rarely eat these foods.”

"Eating eggs regularly in one study showed a decrease in aggressive behaviour by 60 percent, so if you are feeling angry or can't control your mood swings, try eating more eggs," he added.

Dark chocolate

Yes, chocolate is allowed. Enjoying a small treat can help trigger feel-good chemicals in the brain.

When you feel good emotionally, you may feel more open and relaxed with your partner, which can make intimacy feel more natural.

Dark chocolate also contains a high level of cocoa, which Healthline says can “deliver antioxidants and minerals” that support brain health.

It may also help support healthy blood flow, which plays an important role in sexual function.

Toby also noted that dark chocolate can help feed beneficial gut bacteria, which can help “regulate” mood.
