In the Tennessee tornado, Sydney Moore's baby miraculously lands unharmed in a fallen tree, prompting the family to seek community support for rebuilding. Moore expresses gratitude for what she sees as a divine intervention amid the destruction.
Four-Month-Old Baby Swept Away In Tornado Miraculously Found Alive
A baby that was carried away by a tornado in Tennessee has been discovered unharmed and in a strange location.
When the tornado hit Clarksville last week, Sydney Moore, her boyfriend, and their two kids were inside their house.
When the EF3 tornado made landfall in Montgomery County on Saturday, December 9, it caused more than two dozen injuries and six fatalities, three in Nashville and three in Clarksville.
Moore, who is 22 years old, remembers when the storm struck.
"Something in me just told me to run and jump on top of my son," she told WSMV News. "The moment I jumped on him, the walls collapsed.”
"I was being really crushed. I couldn't breathe."
However, while Moore shielded her one-year-old son Princeton, the storm pulled up the bassinet that contained her four-month-old infant who was napping.
Her partner was there when the horrifying incident occurred.
"The roof came off first, the tip of the tornado came down and picked up the bassinet with our baby," she said. "He was the first thing to go up."
While trying to save the infant Lord, the father was swept up by the storm as well.
Moore recalls: "He was just holding on to the bassinet the whole time, and they went into circles, he said, and then they got thrown."
Upon the tornado's eventual passage, the couple moved quickly to locate their missing son.
Through some miracle, he survived, landing in what the young mother refers to as "a little tree cradle," a tree that had fallen during the storm.
"I thought he was dead," Moore said. "I was pretty sure he was dead and we weren’t going to find him. But he’s here, and that’s by the grace of God.”
"I will die for my kids. That’s not even a question, and my boyfriend would do the same thing."
Since then, it has been verified that the family only suffered minor injuries in escaping the tornado. The others are reported to have only "minor cuts and bruises," while Moore's partner reportedly has a broken arm and shoulder.
However, despite the fact that the four family members were unharmed, the tragic occurrence destroyed their mobile home and the majority of their belongings.
They are currently looking for a new home after their community came together to support them and give them necessities like formula and diapers.
Moore's sister has created a GoFundMe page to assist in their recovery.
The four-month-old Lord "looked like he was placed on the tree gently," according to her mother, as though "an angel guided him safely to that spot."
She also sent her condolences and best wishes to all those impacted by the disaster.
