Every parent dreams for the success for his/her child right from the day s/he is born. Getting a phenomenon named after you sounds like success. But this is not what the Langran family wished for.
Oakley syndrome was named after their 4-year-old boy Oakley Langran who began vomiting 100 times a day after he was born. He cannot eat and never will. As a treat, though, he is given a cooked meal to play with on Christmas.
#1 About Oakley
Oakley Langran is a 4-year-old boy who lives in Hythe, Kent. He was born with a floppy larynx and gastro reflux disease, which made him unable to eat.
#2 The Oakley syndrome
Oakley's condition is so rare that it has been named after him. As a baby and toddler, he vomited almost 100 times a day, before being fitted with a feeding pump which allows nutrients to enter his body via a small tube.
#3 Christmas is ironic
This boy who has never had a meal in his life and will never have once was presented with a cooked meal to play with as a Christmas present.
#4 Why though?
Oakley's parents, Charlene and Stephen, both 35, gave him fake plastic food toys to play with every day. But every Christmas, as a treat, he is given a real home-cooked festive meal to play with. They believe that this is the closest their son could get to enjoying home-cooked food. Poor baby!
