Funeral Home Delivers Wrong Body To Funeral
Cher Lee who passed away in Sept, 2021 was loved by her family that had gathered to show their love and say their goodbyes to her.
Unfortunately, when the family looked into the casket, they were horrified to find someone else’s body in Cher’s stead.
The family is now suing Fresno Funeral Chapel who was responsible for the mixup.
The lawsuit stated, "In the middle of the funeral, however, to the extreme shock and surprise of all in attendance, the Lee family opened the casket to discover the wrong body,"
Furthermore, the funeral home had also mixed up the personal effects of the deceased. They "had dressed Cher Lee in the Khang family members' ceremonial funeral clothes and was now in the open casket in place of the departed Khang family member."
The family is also worried within a spiritual context worrying that she will not have a restful afterlife due to the conditions of her burial.
"The afterlife and its preparation are of extreme significance for both the living and the departed," the lawsuit states.
"Indeed, many Hmong believe that when the body is mishandled, and the funeral songs sung, the deceased relative not only fails to make their journey to the afterlife but the deceased stays lost between this life and the next and curses the surviving family members."
The chapel has since admitted its mistake and has taken responsibility for the mixup.
The funeral director for the chapel said, "It was our mistake for putting the wrong body out. We should have double-checked. I pray it doesn't happen again."
