Giant Tortoise, 35, Gets Arrested By Police For Managing To Escape Home Without Breaking The Fence

This giant 35-year-old tortoise escaped from his home but was arrested by the police in Suffolk

Titan is a 35-year-old very giant tortoise who escaped from his enclosure and went too far but was arrested by the police who dropped him off again at his home.

Titan, a pet African sulcata tortoise, had wandered a mile away from his home and was spotted at another town named Kesgrave, near Ipswich, on the 4rth of June.

The owner had no idea how Titan managed to escape and was thankful to the police for returning his giant pet

The police in Suffolk were quick to arrest the unusual suspect who was returned home in the back of a police van. 

According to the BBC News, Richard Aston told;

‘There was no sign of the fence being broken, and he can’t jump over it – it’s three feet high,’ and jokingly suggested ‘maybe it teleported out.’

The owner had no idea how the tortoise got out and jokingly suggested it teleported out

Titan was lifted by not one but three police officers who reached the scene when some residents called them to report the giant tortoise. 

The residents of the town Kesgrave spotted Titan slowly making his way forward and immediately called the police. 

The owner Richard Aston had no idea about his escape until he received the call from the police trying to return his beloved pet. 

The tweet was followed with the hashtag #slowjustice

The Ipswich Police was quite proud of their achievement and tweeted;

‘Thanks again to vigilant members of public in locating this absconder. 9 stone “Titan” was safely returned home. He was too large for the van cell so had to travel wagon side.’

The tweet soon got the public's attention who were quick to retweet it. One person wrote; ‘just glad you didn’t have to call out the shellicopter.’

Another one joked, ‘is this how the tortoise actually won?’ while a third person wrote ‘bang him up the b***ard!’

Aston is glad his pet is home safe and sound

Richard Aston was grateful to the police and called them ‘lovely.’ He said that the police ‘went out of their way’ to bring his pet tortoise home safe and sound.

He said the escape was a mystery and described it as ‘just another of [Titan’s] adventures.’ After this incident, Aston also shared the images of his pet tortoise chilling beside his regular-sized Hermann’s tortoise companion.
