Elizabeth and Scott attended different high schools in central Ohio, but they struck up the beginnings of a flirtatious teenage romance. It was around this time that Scott’s friends decided they didn’t like Elizabeth, basing their opinion solely on her social media profiles. Scott’s best friend Tyler was especially jealous and vicious, and Scott began bullying Elizabeth along with his friends.

Without even knowing or meeting her, Scott and Tyler taunted and victimized Elizabeth online and over the phone. They called her names like "ugly" and "troll." They stripped her of her self-confidence.

The harassment grew worse until things took a terrifying turn. During another cruel phone call made to Elizabeth by Scott and Tyler, another one of their friends this time, a girl who Elizabeth had never heard from before suddenly got on the phone. She told Elizabeth to kill herself.

This was the breaking point when Elizabeth wanted to give up. She made an even more concerted effort to cut all ties with Scott, and the bullying eventually ceased.

Several months later, Scott and Tyler were in the car together when they heard a newscast about a 14-year-old boy who took his own life in the face of constant bullying. Everything clicked. The pair of teenage boys made a life-changing realization that they had become bullies themselves. They were part of the problem.

An anti-bullying organization contacted Scott and Tyler about taking part in their campaign, and they jumped at the chance to turn their behavior around. However, they initially kept their history with Elizabeth a secret out of shame.
