Woman’s Marriage Ends Because She Refused To Sacrifice Her Life For A Baby

For most people grandchildren come along when you're pretty much done with most things in your life and you get to enjoy their existence for an hour or so, spoil them, and leave the child-rearing to their actual parents.

This Redditor however was shocked to learn that her husband and step-daughter had entirely different plans when it came to her being a grandparent.

Not only is OP a grandparent at only 38 years of age, but she added that she had clarified her child-free status before getting together with her now husband.

Her husband had already had a daughter at the time and OP never had a parental relationship with her although they got along.

His daughter, now 25, got pregnant and decided to raise the child as a single parent after her boyfriend broke up. Being on a teacher's salary, OP was concerned Leah would not be able to raise the child on her own.

OP suggested to Leah that she reach out to her ex and ask for child support but Leah refused.

Once the baby came around however Leah realised just how much responsibility she had taken on. OP'd husband chipped in to help with OP taking on the bulk of household chores.

With Leah's leave ending, she was looking for someone to take care of her child. The catch however was that she wasn't open to keeping a nanny.

She had her eyes set on OP, asking her to stay home with the baby instead.

After OP refused Leah, she asked her father to ask OP instead. OP once again refused.

When asked why Leah couldn't stay with her baby herself, she said that she needed to build a career. Leah broke down under the stress of parenting and wanted more from life.

With a nanny being out of the picture, the three were in a difficult situation.

The two continued to pressure OP but she stood her ground.

Leah then resorted to emotional blackmail saying how she missed her own mother. OP was confused as to whether she was in the wrong for not making this sacrifice.

In a later update, which has since been removed, OP revealed that she had moved out and was considering divorce.

She also added that Leah was not reaching out to her ex-boyfriend for child support because she hoped he would take her back and did not want to annoy him.

Commenters were baffled by this scenario. They assured OP that she was most definitely not the asshole and said that the child being put in daycare was the most obvious solution.

Others agreed that the child was not OP's responsibility.

Asking OP to give up on her career was a pretty big ask and it was surprising to many how the two had been cornering OP into agreeing with them.

Some even pointed out that even if OP had been Leah's biological mother, she would not have been obligated to give up her career for the baby.
