Good news for fans of good looks—after much anticipation, the so-called council of attractiveness has spoken, crowning Wicked star Jonathan Bailey as the new 'Sexiest Man Alive'.

Of course, beauty is entirely subjective. In this case, the decision came from the editors of People magazine, who get to decide whose looks supposedly top everyone else’s for the year.

The actor shared that it was 'the honour of a lifetime' to hear that, at least for 2025, he had been declared a more attractive man than billions of others on the planet. It’s a lighthearted title, but one that definitely makes headlines.

The magazine released several covers featuring Bailey looking effortlessly charming—one showing him drenched while water is poured over him, and another cuddling an adorable dog, notably shirtless for that extra touch of appeal.

He joins a long list of handsome men who have earned this distinction over the years. But according to something known as the 'golden ratio', a few other faces out there might be even closer to mathematical perfection.

What is the golden ratio?

Attractiveness isn’t just about facial features—it’s a mix of many things that come together to create what people now call an overall vibe, or as younger folks like to say, rizz.

Jonathan Bailey certainly has that charisma, but having a face that fits the ancient formula for beauty doesn’t hurt either. That’s where the golden ratio steps in.

The golden ratio is a mathematical principle suggesting that dividing something in the proportions 1:1.618 creates an ideal balance. It appears frequently in nature and has been applied to art, design, and even architecture throughout history.

When this ratio is applied to the human face, it looks for proportions where the face is roughly 1.618 times longer than it is wide. The same ratio is used to measure the spacing between features such as the nose, lips, and chin.

For example, the distance from the top of the nose to the center of the lips should ideally match the ratio compared to the distance from the lips to the chin.

The balance also extends to other facial measurements, like how the distance between the hairline and upper eyelid compares with the space between the eyebrow and lower eyelid.

Even lip shape plays a role—the lower lip should appear slightly fuller than the upper one for the ideal ratio. It may sound overly technical, but plenty of celebrities happen to come quite close to these so-called perfect proportions. Here’s a look at the top 10.

Jodie Comer - 94.52 percent

According to the golden ratio, Jodie Comer ranks as the most beautiful woman in the world. Her facial features are considered the closest to mathematical perfection compared to anyone else on the list.

Interestingly, even though her score is just under 95 percent, it shows that absolute perfection is more of an abstract concept than a real, attainable target.

The golden ratio traces back to Ancient Greece, where philosophers and artists like Plato and Socrates explored its influence in art and nature.

Had Comer lived in their era, she might have been admired as an example of ideal beauty—though she wouldn’t have been allowed on stage, since women were banned from public performances at the time.

Cosmetic surgeon Dr. Julian De Silva, from the Centre for Advanced Facial Cosmetic and Plastic Surgery, explained: "Jodie Comer was the clear winner when all elements of the face were measured for physical perfection."

"She had the highest overall reading for the positioning of her nose and lips... Jodie also had the highest score for her nose width and length and she was near the top for the shape of her lips and the position of her eyes."

"Her chin is beautifully shaped and her overall face shape is really strong. The only element she was marked down for was her eyebrows which achieved an average score of 88 percent."

Zendaya - 94.37 percent

Right behind Comer is Zendaya, the singer and Spider-Man star, who nearly reached perfection with lips that were rated 99.5 percent ideal according to the golden ratio.

Dr. De Silva noted that her forehead measured at 98 percent, another near-perfect score—apparently a big deal in the world of facial symmetry.

Zendaya’s well-known relationship with her co-star Tom Holland adds to her public appeal. The two have often joked about their height difference, especially during stunt scenes where he’s supposed to land before her—a detail fans find endearing.

Bella Hadid - 94.35 percent

Taking the third spot is model Bella Hadid, who recently found out she has a half-sister. Her striking features earned her a spot near the top, with symmetry that nearly matches mathematical perfection.

According to Dr. De Silva, she stood out most for 'achieving top score for her eye position and her chin', which gives her face a naturally balanced and refined look—qualities that the golden ratio heavily favors.

Margot Robbie - 93.43 percent

There’s a clear reason why Australian actress Margot Robbie was chosen to play Barbie—and why the movie even makes a playful joke about her looks.

In one scene, Barbie complains about being 'not pretty anymore' and not 'stereotypical Barbie' pretty, prompting the film’s narrator (Helen Mirren) to interject with: "Note to the filmmakers: Margot Robbie is the wrong person to cast if you want to make this point."

It’s a clever wink at Robbie’s timeless appeal, and one that audiences everywhere couldn’t help but agree with.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson - 93.04 percent

Actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who stars in the upcoming 28 Years Later, ranks fifth and happens to be the highest-scoring man on the list.

His classic good looks have even fueled rumors about him taking over as the next James Bond.

Given his placement, it wouldn’t be surprising if he ended up snagging Jonathan Bailey’s title of 'Sexiest Man Alive' next year.

Song Hye-kyo - 92.67 percent

South Korean superstar Song Hye-kyo takes the sixth spot, proving her timeless appeal goes beyond television screens.

According to the golden ratio, her facial symmetry fits remarkably well within the ideal proportions that define classical beauty.

Lucien Laviscount - 92.41 percent

Lucien Laviscount lands next on the list, recognized for having one of those instantly familiar faces that make you pause and think, “Where have I seen him before?” His balanced and defined features give him a strong, photogenic presence.

Laviscount made headlines last year after posing for photos with Shakira, a moment that reminded many fans he’s the same actor from Emily in Paris—a fact that quickly reignited interest in his work.

Beyoncé - 92.40 percent

Beyoncé, already known for her powerhouse voice and commanding stage presence, also scores high when it comes to facial symmetry.

According to the golden ratio, her features align beautifully with what the Ancient Greeks would have considered ideal proportions.

Paul Mescal - 92.38 percent

Paul Mescal, known for his upcoming role in Gladiator II, takes the ninth spot. Even while covered in dust and battle scars on screen, his features maintain a balance that fits the golden ratio’s standards of beauty.

Credit also goes to the film’s makeup and styling teams, who manage to highlight his natural good looks even in gritty, high-action scenes.

Robert Pattinson - 92.15 percent

Closing the list is actor Robert Pattinson, best known for playing Batman. He once held the title of the most attractive man in the world, though a few new contenders have surpassed him in golden ratio rankings.

Still, Pattinson’s combination of sharp features, expressive eyes, and a successful acting career ensure that his appeal isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
