In the wake of the devastating plane crash that took the lives of Greg Biffle and his family, Christina’s mother has opened up about her final interactions with them, including a chilling message she received moments before the aircraft went down.

Authorities later confirmed that seven people had died in the accident, among them NASCAR legend Greg Biffle, his wife Christina, and their two children, Ryder and Emma. Officials with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol shared that the plane crashed on Thursday, although what caused it has not yet been determined.

Along with the Biffle family, the other passengers included Dennis Dutton, his son Jack, and a man named Craig Wadsworth. Greg’s longtime friend Garrett Mitchell, known online by his persona Cleetus McFarland, also addressed the heartbreaking news and revealed that the family had been on their way to visit him before the crash occurred.

In a Facebook post, Mitchell wrote: "Unfortunately, I can confirm Greg Biffle, his wife Cristina, daughter Emma, and son Ryder were on that plane...because they were on their way to spend the afternoon with us. We are devastated. I'm so sorry to share this."

Christina’s mother, Cathy, later spoke with People and shared the last message she received from her daughter. She said Christina had sent her a text saying, “we’re in trouble,” only a short time before the fatal crash.

Through tears, Cathy explained: "She texted me from the plane and she said, 'We're in trouble.' And that was it."

"So we're devastated. We're brokenhearted."

She added that the family had reportedly been enjoying a birthday trip in Florida before tragedy struck.

Cathy then continued: "To think that they would be killed on a birthday trip, that was just such a fun time for the family."

Cathy also shared that Cristina and Greg had been at her home the day before the crash. She said: "I don't remember what the last words that I said to my daughter or to Greg or to my precious Ryder."

"I don't remember. I know we hugged, but I don't remember those last words and that's going to haunt me. But they were happy."
