Grieving Husband Pressured By Wife To Attend Xmas Work Event Told Off For Not Socializing

Loss is the kind of thing you only truly understand if you've been through it for yourself. Everyone grieves differently and one can only hope that the people around us can provide us with the space and support that we need in times like these.

She said that she had been married for 12 years and had only just returned to the workforce some time ago.

She had been invited to a black tie event through her work and was excited to attend since she had missed the last one due to an illness.

She had even asked her sister to drive to them and babysit her children so she could attend the gala with her husband.

As the event came closer, her husband's uncle passed away. She said that the uncle was the closest thing her husband had to a father figure since he hadn't had a great relationship with his biological father.

the funeral was held only a week before the work event which meant that the wound was still fresh for OP's husband. She also added that her husband attended the funeral alone.

When he returned he said he was fine and went about his usual day but acknowledged that he was sad and grieving.

When OP's sister arrived, her husband said that he didn't feel like attending the work event and that he felt too emotionally exhausted to make small talk.

OP didn't want to hear it and told him that she had made preparations for the day. He suggested she attend on her own but she insisted that she wanted him there.

Her husband finally agreed to go but once they got there he kept to himself. He didn't socialize with anyone and ended up sitting at the bar by himself.
