After 56 years of marriage, Bud misses his dear wife terribly. He goes to the bench adorned with her photo and death notice and chats with her about his daily activities and the things he thinks she needs to know.
#6 Winter Weather Blocked His Pathway
But when winter arrived in his hometown of du Lac, Wisconsin, the snowy and icy conditions made it impossible for Bud to make his daily trip to the bench. The walkways were too dangerous and slippery for him to safely cross.
#7 He Would Drive To The Path And Talk To Betty From His Car
Still, Bud drove to the entranceway every day to see if he could make way to the bench. Each morning he prayed that he could just walk to his wife's bench to give her the daisy he had promised to leave for her each day.
#8 Park Workers Noticed Bud Was Unable To Get To The Bench
Two male park employees, Jerrod Ebert and Kevin Schultz, noticed Bud was unable to visit his wife daily anymore, so they decided to help him and do something absolutely amazing! The two park employees shoveled the walkway that was not on their regular duty list so that Bud could make his way to the loving bench.

They both watched for a few days as Bud sat in his car just down the pathway from the bench and tribute to his wife. They could not stand to see the man going through such agony and were overcome with emotions as they cleared the path for Bud. They ven left a bouquet of fresh daisies. It's great to know there are still amazing and selfless people in this world.

Bud will never forget the gesture of these two young men. Since that day, Bud has not missed a single chance to walk to the bench with a shiny penny and a fresh daisy and to tell his beloved wife that he loves her. The two men vowed to keep the walk clear for Bud all Winter.
As the last verse of the song goes, 'I come up here every day and give you a daisy a day'.
