Grimes has now claimed that her ex, Elon Musk, has done something she considers pretty 'silly' as the two continue trying to handle their co-parenting routines. Their unusual pairing, which brought together an experimental pop artist and a billionaire tech founder, first caught public attention back in 2018.

Across their roughly four-year relationship, Grimes — whose real name is Claire Boucher — and Musk welcomed three children. Their first son, X Æ A-Xii, was born in 2020. Their daughter, Exa Dark Sideræl, arrived in 2021 through a surrogate. Their youngest, a son named Techno Mechanicus, was born in 2022.

Not long after expanding their family, the couple confirmed they had separated. The breakup led to a complicated custody dispute, which involved legal filings in both Texas and California.

The 37-year-old artist behind the song 'Genesis' later said Musk had kept her from seeing their youngest child during part of the conflict. Their issues eventually settled last summer, and Grimes shared that the two now split custody evenly.

Recently, however, the Canadian musician claimed Musk has been acting a bit strangely on X — the platform formerly known as Twitter — which he took ownership of in 2022.

When a user noticed that she no longer followed Musk on the platform, Grimes stepped in to explain that she wasn’t the one who removed him. Instead, she said the 54-year-old had actually blocked her.

"For context I'm just living my life," she wrote on Thursday (December 11). "He followed me then blocked me. I'm not gna be following and unfollowing. My only priority is co parenting, I am not interested in public dramatics."

She followed with a short note, adding: "This is so silly lol."

This update comes after several years of ups and downs for the former couple as they try to settle into co-parenting. In 2023, Grimes filed a petition seeking official parental rights for all three children, according to documents reviewed by PEOPLE.

The following year, in November 2024, she revealed that she had paused releasing new music because of how much the ongoing custody battle had taken over her life and energy.

"Spent a year locked in battle in a state with terrible mothers rights having my instagram posts and modeling used as reasons I shouldn't have my kids and fighting and detaching from the love if my life as he comes unrecognizable to me, with a fraction of his resources (or iq/strategy experience)," she wrote in a lengthy post on X. She went on to explain how much the situation had taken out of her both emotionally and financially.

"All the while I didn't see one of my babies for 5 months," Grimes added, before continuing with: "And this is only what can be said publicly, since most of my experience these last years should remain behind closed doors."

Then, in January of this year, she faced heavy criticism online when Musk was accused of making a Nazi salute at the Capital One Arena in Washington.

Responding to the backlash, Grimes shared a heartfelt message, saying in part: "I am not him. I will not make a statement every time he does something. I can only send love back into a world that is hurting."

"I choose my children's wellbeing. I promise you it doesn't feel good to be hated all the time for things I don't even know about, cannot predict and cannot control."

"But I also chose this path, I accept it. I make the best of it, and I simply wish happiness and health to all."

A few days later, she returned to X to make her stance even clearer, writing: "If it wasn't clear – ****I very much denounce Nazi-ism and white supremacy*****."

Roughly one month after that, she appeared to criticize Musk for bringing their eldest child — who was four at the time — to the Oval Office when Musk took charge of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) under the Trump administration.

"He should not be in public like this," she said at the time. In a later interview with TIME, she also urged people to stop circulating images of her children, adding: "Fame is something you should consent to."
