Dressed as the Grinch, Texas pastor David Harold Grisham stirred controversy at an elementary school, asserting "Santa is Fake. Jesus is Real." Despite opposition, he stands firm in his religious convictions.
Grinch Stands Outside Elementary School Scaring Children With ‘Santa Is Fake’ Sign
It's the happiest time of the year, but not for Texas pastor David Harold Grisham.
He seems determined to ruin Christmas magic for many elementary school kids, as seen in images and a video of him online dressed up and holding a sign.
In his Grinch costume, he stood outside an elementary school and held up a banner that said, "Santa is Fake. Jesus is Real."
To make his point, Grisham dressed up as Dr. Seuss in front of Sleepy Hollow Elementary School in Amarillo, Texas.
Following his decision to oppose St. Nicholas, Grisham says the "police showed up in force."
"I got assaulted by a parent and they tore my sign, and the police did their very best to distract me from my mission and blocked me from exercising my First Amendment rights as much as they could.”
"They as much as admitted so.”
"Very unprofessional," he shared on Facebook.
In addition, he claimed that the cops had been involved in more that day.
"We were followed by an unmarked car for several miles after we left and one parent even followed us across town and photographed our license plate at a restaurant we stopped at."
Grisham proceeded to clarify the motivations behind his peculiar stunt.
"Hundreds of children heard the message and many parents as well.”
"It’s very telling for a society to go this far in protecting a LIE.”
"To go that far in trying to protect kids from hearing the truth.”
"It’s no wonder our country is in trouble."
Grisham can be heard yelling, "Get away from my stuff," and "You shouldn't lie to children," in a video of the event that parents have shared.
According to the principal of the school, Grisham was "unwanted and uninvited," ABC News was told.
“I’m saddened by the fact that some of our kiddos and families were frightened because of him,” said Kelsey Williams.
Grisham maintains a firm stance on the religious purpose behind his sign.
On his Facebook page, Grisham emphasizes being 'in a close relationship with Jesus Christ above all else,' stating: "I profess his name before men.”
“I am the pastor of a small group of street preachers who take the Gospel to those who will not step into a church,” he concluded.
