Guest Cuts Newlyweds' Wedding Cake Before Them, Sparks Debate

After a wedding guest cut into the wedding cake before the bride and groom had an opportunity to do it themselves, a viral TikTok video has continued to circulate online.

The culprit, Hailey Skinner aka @mediocrehailey, who was present at Marie Gregson Martinez's wedding to Brayden Martinez earlier this year, released the footage.

In the text overlay, Skinner wrote, “Me! A gUEST at my friend’s wedding! Ignoring the brownie table and confidentially cutting myself a slice of HER WEDDING CAKE thinking uh-oh! They fOrGOT to serve it to everyone else! I know better now. I hate myself!”

On August 15, she published the video, which has received over 26.6 million views since.

The bold act generated a lot of discussion in the video's comments section, with many people expressing their "anger" at the bride and groom while others expressed their amusement at someone choosing to film Skinner "instead of stopping you."

One viewer teased, “dw now when you get married your friend has to do the same ”

Many individuals, particularly the young and non-Americans, were puzzled as to why eating the bride and groom's cake was considered a "faux pas."

Meanwhile, the bride commented under the video to inform those outside of their circle that “…as the bride whose cake this is – SHE IS FORMALLY FORGIVEN AND HAS LEARNED HER LESSON IN WEDDING ETIQUETTE.”

The friends made an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show to discuss what happened, and the actress gifted Martinez and her husband with a new (unsliced) wedding cake to replace the one Skinner had cut into.

Barrymore emphasized during the show that the cake was meant for the bride and groom to keep and that Skinner wasn’t allowed to have any of it.

At least it seems that Skinner learned her lesson and is able to laugh at herself for her faux pas!
