Guy Gets Fired For Giving Away Donuts To Homeless People Instead Of Throwing Them In Trash
Food wastage is the biggest debate of the 21st century. Every day tons of food goes to waste at restaurants and hotels while there are many out there who go to bed on empty stomach.
This ex-Dunkin Donuts employee thought otherwise and decided to donate the donuts to homeless people. However, his action did not sit well with the higher-ups and he got fired.

Bryan Johnston felt disturbed after he saw how more than 300 donuts were going to the trash can almost every day.
Instead of being a yes man to this absurd system, the 16-year old decided to do the right thing and started to donate the remaining food to the needy homeless people.

To raise awareness regarding this important issue, he even made a video and uploaded it on his Tik Tok account. However, this action eventually led to him getting fired from his job.

Bryan got fired for breaking the rules. For him, this action was unjustified and not fair at all. He said:
“It’s still very hard to look back to when I replay the whole situation in my head. It felt as though my manager didn’t care that I worked there for 5 months and she didn’t say anything like ‘sad to see you go’ or ‘thanks for being a part of the team.’”

Bryan's story went viral on Tik Tok and many people even donated money to support his great cause. Some even gave him money to help him sustain till he finds a new job. He added:
“People also have been helping me financially until I find a stable source of income which I am beyond blessed for.”

Staying true to his mission, Bryan used the donation money to buy donuts and donated them to a hospital staff.

Bryan says large corporations are too lazy to care about their local communities.
He further added:
“They would rather just throw away the food at the end of the day instead of paying an employee a couple more man-hours to bring the food to a donation center. Even though it’s up to the store what to do with the waste, most store managers instruct us to throw out the food because they haven’t set up a program to donate. And that roots back to the company itself and not having proper procedures set up in place for the food waste which I find extremely disappointing.”

Even though Dunkin Donuts has its own food donation program but it is up to the franchises if they want to donate the leftover food or not.

However, for Bryan, this is only the beginning of his new journey and he wants to keep on working to raise awareness and fight against food wastage.
“I plan on using my voice to bring light to the issue of how much food waste goes on throughout America each day and how true a problem famine and world hunger is. If companies like Dunkin’ decided to someone reduce the food waste and/or donate the food to the hungry, issues like that would not be as huge of a problem. I still would want to grow on TikTok making positive videos as well as comedy/lifestyle content, but I am hoping to get a lot of people on board with me on how big an issue is that is overseen by so many.”

Bryan plans on working with organizations like Feeding America to help support his cause. He concluded:
“But right now I’m still kinda shaken by the fact so many people on the internet support me and what I am doing/going to do. It gives me the motivation to continue to be a light in such difficult times in the world.”

The Internet also did not respond kindly to Dunkin Donuts' actions and people from all over the world are sending their support to Bryan.

Many people also shared their own personal experiences with food wastage in big corporations.
