Back in the day, this toy was considered by many to be at the peak of toy technology. Sure it was pretty much a more complicated form of doodling but it was still an amazing toy indeed. The stuff dreams are made of. Plus once you were done drawing you could simply shake it and start over.

If you're anything like me, you have always wondered what's actually inside one of these things. I know as a child I always wanted to know. Maybe it was magic or aliens. Who knows.

The guys over at YouTube channel "What's Inside" decided to tackle the age old question and what they found was less than magical.

The guys start off by referencing Breaking Bad and talking about how an innocent Etch A Sketch ended up being used in the show to make drugs.

Dan and his son place an Etch A Sketch into a vice. Afterward, they slice off one corner and shake out a ton of aluminum powder. I bet you didn't know that's what was made the sketches huh? You learn something new every day.

After all the powder is dumped out they slice open the toy itself to reveal it's inner-workings. With the plastic and glass screen now shattered the guys look inside the mysterious toy intent on ending the mystery once and for all.

Check out the awesome video of their experiment.

The not so magical toy works like this: When you twist the knobs, a metal pointer moves the aluminum powder, leaving a trail that creates your drawing. One you are down drawing you simply shake it and the polystyrene balls inside smooth the screen making it ready to use again.

Now you know and knowing is half the battle.
