#1 Rather, it's a beautiful testament to the beauty of friendship.

Mary is a high school student from Pennsylvania who has Down syndrome. As her senior year came to an end, the majority of the students at her school began planning and preparing for their prom night and looking into things like limos, dresses and dates.

#2 But although she simply planned on going with a group of her friends, Mary received a prom offer she just couldn't turn down.

As it turns out, Mary and her old grade school friend Ben Moser made a deal to go to the prom together when they were children. However, as the two friends grew up, they also grew apart. The two went to separate high schools and Ben had become his school football team's star quarterback.

#3 Mary thought their deal was a forgotten childhood memory. But then she received balloons with the word "Prom?" written on them.

Mary was so touched that Ben remembered their deal and was happier than ever to accept his offer. When prom time finally came around, Mary and Ben got all dressed up and prepared for a fantastic evening. Their friends and family smiled, cried and took pictures. Their fourth grade teacher even showed up!

#4 Look how great they looked!

Ben and Mary's story has been getting a ton of media attention and for good reason! It's amazing to see such a young boy doing such a selfless act. But Ben didn't go to prom with Mary for the media attention. In fact, he's been looking out for Mary since the fourth grade and long before they made their deal. Their former teacher explains...

#5 She accepted his invitation and had a great time

"If she was looking like she wasn't having fun, he would go over and talk to her. He would pull her in to whatever activity they were doing. He just always watched out for her."

Ben and Mary's story touches on so many different but important life lessons we should ALL try to learn. Ben's actions show just how important keeping a promise is and just how much it can affect a person's life. Since Ben was the quarterback of his football team, I am sure there were many other girls who would have loved to go to prom with him. But Ben kept his promise, ultimately demonstrating his overall kindness and selfless nature. Because nothing in this world is more important than friendship.

#6 Just ask Ben and Mary.

This goes to show: in this dark, dark world, not all humanity and hope is lost. Thanks Ben!
