Amy Adams later confessed she might have gone a little overboard
Henry Cavill has revealed that a kiss he shared with his Man of Steel co-star Amy Adams ended up being a bit 'too much'. The moment has become one of those behind-the-scenes stories that fans still talk about years after the film’s release.
Cavill is known for being a talented and entertaining performer. For many moviegoers, he will always be the face of Superman, even if his films as the character were not the biggest hits at the time they came out.
Although viewers may often bring up his role in The Witcher, Cavill has been part of plenty of other projects that spark conversations for all kinds of reasons. This particular kissing moment is one of them, and it definitely stands out for its unexpected intensity.
One of those memorable moments came from the 2013 film Man of Steel, where Cavill and Adams’ characters share an intimate kiss that caught some fans by surprise. The scene has gained even more attention thanks to what the actors later revealed about filming it.
During an appearance on BBC’s The Graham Norton Show, Adams shared that she had learned the ‘tongue’ technique from director David O. Russell when she was filming The Fighter. Her comments added a funny layer to the story behind the now-famous scene.
She said: "David O. Russell has a thing with tongue, okay? He likes to see it, like a 1980s music video or something. I tried that with Henry, it didn't work! They were like, 'Ew, what's that?'"
Cavill agreed with her assessment and admitted that the kiss ended up being ‘too much’ once the cameras were rolling.
"I was such a creeper for poor Henry," Adams joked, lightening the moment. She went on to add more detail about how self-conscious she felt afterward, saying: "Like I know it's all you know, but I talked to other people like, 'Oh, Henry is beautiful, he's such a nice guy', but then you say it in front of him and then you feel really creepy."
Even though the kissing moment may have felt awkward for them, Adams has not been shy about expressing her admiration for Cavill. She has called him the ‘nicest person’, and she has praised both his talent and the way he carries himself on set.
"He's the nicest person on top of being just a wonderful actor and wonderful looking," she previously told OK! magazine.
"He's also got this great humility and he does a really great job in the role. He's got a great sense of humour, but he's not cheeky at all, so... I kind of wish he'd misbehaved!"
Cavill has also talked about intimate scenes in interviews before. On the Happy Sad Confused podcast, he said that there are times when ‘a sex scene actually is beneficial to a movie’, especially when it adds something meaningful to the story or characters.
According to the Express, the 42-year-old explained his thoughts further by saying: "There are circumstances where a sex scene actually is beneficial to a movie, rather than just the audience. I think sometimes they're overused these days. It's when you have a sense that you're going, 'Is this really necessary, or is it just people with less clothing on?"
"That's when you start to get more uncomfortable and you're thinking, 'There's not a performance here. There's not a piece which is going to carry through to the rest of the movie.'"
