Here's Why Women Should Stop Wearing High Heels

#1 Undue pressure is placed on the front of your foot.

Given that your heel is now physically above the rest of the foot, pressure isn't properly spread across the sole.

If your foot is held this way for a prolonged period, you can easily develop Morton's Neuroma.

This condition results from constant irritation of the plantar digital nerve in the foot. An irritated nerve can result in chronic foot pain something that may require physical therapy to fully reverse. It's also possible that the nerve damage is so severe that surgery is necessary.

#2 It forces your ankle into an unnatural position.

When you're standing without high heels, your foot and legs make, roughly, a 90-degree angle. This angle is significantly reduced with heels, a position that keeps your ankle in a pointed position, even when you are sitting. This forces someone to lean back with an accentuated back arch. This may look good, but it's highly unnatural.

Holding this position constantly can shorten your calf muscles and restrict the range of motion for your toes.

This is horrible for people who enjoy running. Being able to fully extend your calf muscle and toes is vital for normal running.

#3 Wearing high heels increases your risk of developing osteoarthritis in your feet and knees (see below).

Is it really a surprise that holding your toes and ankle in such a drastic position can wear down your joints over time?

#4 High heels can really bang up your inner knees.

Yes, unfortunately, the pressure placed on your knees can cause early osteoarthritis.

The excess arching in your back has to be countered somewhere. Unfortunately, that somewhere is your knees.

So now that you know the dangers, be free of those heels!

If you have to wear them, though, try not to wear them every time you go out.
