We’re big fans of Disney fan art around here, of princesses or otherwise. We like to spread the love around, but every once in a while, one artist in particular grabs our attention — today, we’re putting the spotlight on Jirka Vinse Jonatan Väätäinen (whose other works you can and should see here), who has re-imagined Disney royalty by bringing them a little closer to our world. The princesses (and yes, the one queen, you know who we mean) look no worse for the transformations, though — looking like this, we have no doubt they’d rule over our realm, too.
Here’s How 18 Disney Princesses Would Look In Real Life!
Introduction
We're big fans of Disney fan art around here, of princesses or otherwise. We like to spread the love around, but every once in a while, one artist in particular grabs our attention today, we're putting the spotlight on Jirka Vinse Jonatan Väätäinen (whose other works you can and should see here), who has re-imagined Disney royalty by bringing them a little closer to our world. The princesses (and yes, the one queen, you know who we mean) look no worse for the transformations, though looking like this, we have no doubt they'd rule over our realm, too.
#1 Jane
We'll start off with Jane, who always seems to get overshadowed by the other women of Disney. Maybe it's the dress game deficiencies, I don't know. She looks better suited for the jungle here than she was in most of the movie, but I'm not thinking anyone's really coming out of a jungle looking that clean.
#2 Belle
What we really appreciate is not so much the realistic looks as the realistic conclusion that most of us here can't afford the kind of dresses most of these princesses end up wearing at the end of their movies. Like most of the collection, the attire here is of a more inexpensive sort from the part of the movie where Belle is still struggling with the day-to-day. Looks no worse for it, though.
#3 Merida
I guess this one is more realistic because real-life Merida probably wouldn't be allowed to run around with a bow and arrows at that age. Then again, she probably also wouldn't have accidentally turned her mother into a bear and went on an adventure, so maybe it's a wash.
#4 Alice
Alice's blank, faraway expression makes us wonder about how real-world Alice really gets to Wonderland. Something tells me the trip gets started long before the White Rabbit arrives.
#5 Tiana
Here's waitress Tiana, before she got involved in all that frog and love stuff. Considering how good she looks, I'm guessing this picture is of Tiana is from before the dinner shift got underway.
#6 Mulan
While Mulan is a good candidate to get the realistic treatment, the same sadly cannot be said of Mushu. Sad commentary on our own world more than anything, really.
#7 Rapunzel
I don't know how realistic it is that someone wouldn't hit up the hair salon for that long, but maybe that's real-world Rapunzel's way of saving money. It's a tough to make ends meet these days, and I imagine being locked away in a tower isn't conducive to career advancement.
#8 Tinker Bell
Well, that's about as realistic as a fairy gets, anyway. I guess I can see real-life fairies wearing leaf dresses, so I think we're square. Anyway, the best part is that the artist has really captured Tinker Bell's playful jealousy, making her right at home in our world, fairy or no.
#9 Esmeralda
She was already halfway there just by being in one of the realest Disney movies of all time in The Hunchback of Notre Dame, to be honest. Here, Esmeralda looks real enough to ask where she got those terrific-looking hoop earrings.
#10 Aurora
I guess it's hard for one of the foundational Disney princesses to look anything short of fabulous, but realistic Aurora manages to seem at least a little more down-to-earth here. The deceptively nice dress makes me think Aurora would be a pro at hitting the vintage clothes shops.
#11 Jasmine
Sure, she looks nice, but is realistic Jasmine really going to tell you where she found all that sweet jewelry? I sense red herrings coming from that one style like that is too good of a secret to let out. She'll probably tell you about her second-favorite place to go shopping, though.
#12 Ariel
Guess we could just use a picture of Chloë Grace Moretz now, but this is a lot more fun, and that movie isn't going to be Disney, anyway. Instead, we get another Tinker Bell-like realistic interpretation of a fantastical creature, unless we just haven't explored the oceans enough to discover mermaids. That is, if the oceans haven't been too polluted to disrupt potential mermaid life OK, now we're getting too real.
#13 Elsa
The one true Disney queen clearly knows which stylist to go to, because the braid and eye shadow are on point. We also appreciate the long-hair-don't-care smirk that Elsa would certainly rock among her subjects in this world.
#14 Anna
As it is in the real world, Anna has to deal with coming after her big sister and dealing with all the comparisons. She seems alright with it here, although her braids definitely haven't been as let go as Elsa's. See, here we go with the comparisons.
#15 Cinderella
No fairy godmother in this world of ours. We fear the most for realistic Cinderella, who is probably going to get worked hard for little-to-no pay for many years, which might be where the somewhat apprehensive look comes from. Good luck, realistic Cinderella you're not alone.
#16 Pocahontas
Realistic Pocahontas seems to have a facial expression that lies between worry and outrage, which seems pretty apt, all things considered.
#17 Megara
Underrated Disney heroine from an underrated Disney movie (thanks James Woods). This Megara still has the ancient Greek hairdo going on, along with the same kind of flirty, dangerous look that makes you wonder whether or not she's still an Underworld double agent.
#18 Snow White
Might as well cap it all off with the original Disney princess. Realistic Snow White, clad in simple attire, has a look of innocence and confusion that suggests she has just been transported to our world and been introduced to the Internet, in all its glory?
